Completely depends on the grade and hardness of the steel.

FN FiveseveN with SS192 (same as SS195), sorry but I didn't have any SS197 at the time.
This was a few years ago.

These two were shot at about 20 yards away(I was afraid of ricochet) and 30 degrees temp.
The first one was 1 inch of aluminum


As you an see it makes a mark but does not go through

The second one was .5 inch of steel

Once again it makes a mark but not as deep as aluminum.

]Information from a reliable steel broker referred me to "ar500 " or "ar 400 " steel , special hardened alloys that will not be penetrated in 3/8 " sections Cost for 2m 18" x 36." sections was $100 . Not too bad .[/quote]
