Hello All,

i just recently purchased a Weaver 4-20x50 (Model 800380) Tactical scope for my Scar 17s.
Firearm Gun Trigger Air gun Airsoft gun

I have it mounted with a Burris PEPR QD mount.

Optical instrument Monocular Photography Plant Telescope

So so after taking it out to the range today and putting ~40 rounds through it the reticle
has canted. As you can see from the pic above the external scope housing is still
aligned and is holding with integrity. However, the reticle inside has canted as the picture illustrates:

Has as anyone encountered this before? I suppose I will just return this to opticsplanet for a refund.
This is very disappointing.

Thanks in advance all.

Im with boom on this one. I had to look the scope up and didn't realize Weaver had such an extensive line. I usually see weavers in blister packs hanging off the hooks in Walmart. Not that one though! Optic issues have been reported but it's usually on lower end scopes when it happens. Every now and again a quality scope will eat it. The company ought to send you a new one out to replace that one free of charge. If you're happy with the scope (sans current issue) give another one a try. If it breaks too then you know what the problem is. The 17 is not some mythical optics gobling monster some would have you believe. If it was I wouldn't have a MK6 sitting on mine. Best of luck to you and let us know how it goes. Glad to have you here.

Fellahs that's an 8-900 dollar optic. I wouldn't exactly call the price cheap. Now the quality of the optic I guess would need to be determined by one reading reviews and what not. The mount yes it's cheap.

These Weaver tactical line scopes are built on the grandslam line if I remember and Kameron is right they aren't exactly a cheap scope, build or cost. I had one of a few years on a .308 boltgun with a few thousand rounds through the setup with zero problems, that said sometimes you just get a bad part. I'd contact Weaver and have the scope warrantied and personally I'd upgrade the mount. I have seen scope mounts due to them being out of alinement or bad interior ring dimensions crush or brake the internals of the scopes.

So what if it's a cheap mount? If it doesn't shake loose, what's the problem?

800-900 bucks ain't a cheap scope.

SCAR in .308 due to the reciprocating mass can be tough on an optic, even in a "quality" cantilever mount, you need a beefy mount and price of the scope is irrelevant, the scope needs to be beefy like a Nightforce, Leupold, S&B etc... I'D never trust that scope because I'd be worried about what happened to the OP happening to me. We've known for a long time the SCAR H/17s can be tougher on optics than even an AR-10.

Did the reticle shift or did the whole scope? I broke a nice scope, and then ran a cheapie that didn't break. I now have a Vortex and it works fine. The power of the .308 will twist the rifle somewhat and a scope not torqued enough will shift a little. I had this happen until I got a good scope mount and torqued it correctly.

I second the Vortex I have a Vortex Viper 4-14 on another riffle and it's great I got it on a clearance at Cabalas for $244 it retails for $600 and I want to say it's the most under priced scope on the market today with the best warranty if u ever see one used for good price buy it !$

I have a MK6 3-18 on mine. So... what's your point? My point is you don't need to spend $3,000 on an optic for the 17 for it to be reliable. There quality scoped out there for less. I didn't claim weaver was one of them simply because I don't know anything about which I feel I was crystal clear about.

OP that could very well be a good scope and you may have gotten a bad egg. Don't discount the thing because you had one break on you. If anyone here can name a optics company that had A 100% 00000 failure track record please point them out and I will be sure to buy from them. Yes S&B have put out lemons before. It happens.

Thanks a lot everyone for the feedback. It has been a very interesting journey in trying to find an optic for this rifle. I prefer variable zoom optics so that rules out the Acogs (Though the variable Acogs are interesting but they're not front focal plane). Also, I looked at the Elcans but there just doesn't seem to be price value to me in a $2k scope with a 1-4 magnification. I don't like the Leopold reticles that I've seen and the U.S. Optics are just to massive and bulky. This roughly leaves just a few quality scopes out there that I have seen. The Nightforce, Vortex, Swfa and Weavers. Unfortunately, the stores around here in Southern Kalifornia are limited or simply don't carry many scopes of those brands so it's tough finding optics to play with in hand before buying. Thus you're forced to buy online without handling the optic in advance. I thought I had something special with this Weaver. It really looks great and felt solid. I read the reviews and they were all great. Picked up the scope, mounted it, began the sighting process, and after the first box of ammo the reticle started to move. I thought I was seeing things (literally) but sure enough the reticle began to cant and once that happened I couldn't hit targets out at 100 yards let alone beyond. Initially I thought the scope began to rotate in the mount but sure enough the scope was held firmly in place by the Burris mount. Guys at the range looked at it too and had no ideas other than return it to the manuf. so I sent it back to opticsplanet today. Hopefully, they give me a full refund as this scope was defective (its rated to support .50 BMG) and I'll take those funds to get a Nightforce or Vortex 4-16 illuminated MRAD FFP.

thank you guys for you're support in this matter.

My brother mounted a 3-15 x 50 weaver tactical on his sig 716 and hasn't had a problem out of it. Not sure what his round count is but he seems to be happy with the purchase. Honestly the Weaver Tac seems like a nice scope! I'm sure Weaver will take care of this w/o any problems. About 10 yrs ago, I had a 6.5-20 x50 V-X3 Leupold and sent it out to have target knobs installed. It came back and I mounted on my Rem .243W. Varmint. 5 shots in while sighting, the reticle nearly disappeared and I thought I had gone blind in 1 eye. My point is, even some of the best scope makers will flub up at times. BTW, the SCAR 17's aren't any harder on scopes then other 762 semi-auto. That rumor is just a bunch a hooey. Happy shooting!
