I keep a microfiber cloth in the case with my FNX tac for this reason, a quick wipe of the lens and it's g2g.

The clear covers look like a good range solution. Even though it looked so dirty, I could still use/see the red dot just fine - not sure it affected the visibility at all from the shooter's perspective.

Good news is the can didn't have residue anywhere, even on the end cap - zilch.
