Single stage was my thought based on the trigger group parts. For some reason I always thought that they were tactical two stage.

Mil spec triggers are supposed to have 8lb or greater pull. Its a requirement for the guys (regular ground pounders) who use them in combat. That's my understanding.

Single all the way, except maybe spec ops guys who get to upgrade.

And more's the shame. I think this was Stoner's biggest screwup. Garand, on the other hand, put a really nice 2-stage in the M1 and M14.
The single stage trigger was a military requirement for the M16 at the time. It was thought to be easier to train a person to use a single stage trigger vice a two-stage trigger.

I don't know much about trigger engineering but would it be difficult to have a M16 two stage trigger with the select fire option?
