When I'm sitting in my yard, smoking my pipe, I sometimes think about what's going on in the worldand how it affects me. Now, I try not to read or listen to news somuch – a great deal, probably even a larger part of it is trash andpoison. But I know that there are some things that tell me things areafoot – Russia is making moves in Europe, the Chinese are sendingtheir ships into Japanese waters, etc. Similarly at home – I talkto my neighbors and people I interact with in everyday life to findout how they're doing. Their pride and joy of family or a hobby thatthey're keen on, whether they feel safe in their neighborhood, ifcrime's going up, or what. Take that together with some statisticsprovided by reputable and independent institutions, and you can get apretty good picture of what's going on in the world.

And I can tell that thetimes are bubbling over – this is when history gets thick, youknow? I want to be sure that me and mine are in safety, and I thinkit's downright stupid of our government – not unconstitutional, just plain stupid! - to try to take away from us the means by whichwe safeguard our freedoms, our lives, and our democratic country! Icame across AR Mag Magnet, who sell tactical supplies and AR-15accessories (like the much-maligned “bullet button”), and Ithought – these guys get it. We're not going to shoot ourselves todeath and rip apart America, but we have to make sure that outsideaggressors don't try to undermine our way of life. The Russians, theChinese with their cheap slave labor and police states will try towork us from all angles – including the domestic.

If we don't keep up ourguard, they just might succeed, too. The Japanese said that if theytried to invade America, there would be a rifle behind every blade ofgrass. This is one of the pillars of our sovereign nation – thatthere are armed “minutemen” who are ready to defend their home, family, and neighbors at a minute's notice from threats “bothforeign and domestic”. If we don't have that, it won't just be astrategic defeat – it'll be a blow to the very pillars of civicconsciousness of citizens and patriots of the United States ofAmerica! Which is why these control freaks who want to regulate, restrict, and nanny us get on my nerves so much. They're not threats– they're just misguided, persistent idealists. That's what Ithink, at least. But I can't be the only one, right?

I have to respectfully disagree. the government is a threat. They want to control every aspect of our lives, and take away our ability to defend against a tyrannical govt. The 2nd amendment wasn't put in place to protect ourselves from foreign invaders but to protect ourselves from our own govt. getting too powerful. As far as foreign armies invading that is the least of my worries, as no major power is going to spend resources and manpower trying to take us over, rather they are going to pick away at the weaker nations while we spend our time and resources trying to bring democracy to those unable to fully understand the concept.
