Buying used

I'm probably going to be buying a used scar 17s (approximately 300 rounds shot). I will be using a bill of sale form and plan on meeting at a gun range to make sure the rifle fires and functions properly. What are some red flags I should be looking for on the firearm itself?

300 rds through it? Why it is almost new. Besides just a general inspection I would make sure there is no owner induced problems.
My guess is the rifle is solid if he is willing to stand behind it by letting you shoot it first. I don't think I have ever shot something before I bought it...
Just some thoughts...

it is coming off of armslist. I haven't met him personally thus my desire to fire the weapon first. maybe im just paranoid.
Just do a search on the forum for wear. Then you will have a good idea about what things are normal versus abnormal.

Overall I would just say take the rifle apart to see any odd looking areas, reassemble and shoot it if it meets with your approval. Also external wear on the rifle is likely just user induced wear so take that for what its worth.

Not paranoia, just judicious caution.

It's a very good idea to be able to inspect and shoot the SCAR before you buy it.
Make sure to ask the owner if he liked to dry fire it without using snap caps.
There are certainly valid concerns to have any time you purchase a used firearm, just as there would be in buying a car or anything else. But if like buying a car you know what to look for and have reasonable expectations there shouldn't be a big deal. And I speak from experience. I bought my 17S FDE used with 600 rounds down the tube, 5 mags, a Timney trigger and 120 rounds of match ammo for $2500. No way in the world I would have come close to that price any other way.

How do you like the timney?

Or ... Extreme Prejudice .... I really would break it down, take the intel supplied here... I have shot thousands of rounds through mine and it is no where near the term " used " it a SCAR after all.
