I forget where I read this, but I recall that the P40 trigger assembly is removable for thorough cleaning (and easy replacement of the frame rails). I was looking at the "Exploded View" sticky post (Thanks leper65!) and it looks like one could pull the Takedown Lever (#49) and the Trigger Pin (#52) and be able to lift the entire assembly out of the frame.

My question is this. Has anyone here done this before, how did you do it and should I watch for any little springs that are going to fly across the room when the assembly is pulled?

I have completly torn my 9 down to duracoat it so I will share what I know. Their are 4 pins that I removed 1 is the slide/takedown lever which is held in place by the slide stop/release spring pay attention to its orientation it will not fly out but may fall out after the takedown lever and pin 2 is removed.
2. is the trigger and slide release pivot pin once this is removed the trigger will drop down to reveal the next pin
3. is the pin on the trigger itself once this pin is removed the trigger spring is relieved of stress and may or may not fly out so be carefull, mine did not go far but.......
4 pin is at the rear and hold the hammer and sears and such which are self contained so no springs to watch for.

Now the whole assy is ready to come out.

on mine the front slide rails did not come out and I did not force them on the rear slide rails there is a small retainer wire holding them in place remove it and they come out.

Watch the orientation of everything so you can put it back together.

Hope this helps some :)

Sounds straight forward enough. I will give it a shot tonight. Thanks for the heads up on the springs.
It always seems to be my luck when one flys out it lands in some inaccessable place in the corner of the next room....
