Is this frame junk or repairable? What would have caused this? Thanks for your input.

Cracked frame

If it were mine, I would have no interest in repairing it.
What caused it? In the front, did it crack near the cam lug? Could it be a cam lug failure kind of thing.

Slide, barrel, and rest of frame appear fine. The pistol came to me as is. I have never fired it. It was intended to be a project gun. The cracks did not make themselves apparent until full disassembly. You are right. Even if repairable, it may not be worth repairing for cost and other reasons.

My view: A project should begin with a really good, really sound base. Otherwise, you're building a lovely house on a shoddy foundation.
But I appreciate that everyone has their own way of having fun.

My thoughts would be this:
How old is the frame to begin with?
How long has it been like that and how many rounds were put through it in that condition?
Research said frame back as far as possible, did that maker have a bad run of weapons?
This may not be a one-time thing, many of their lot in that production run could be bad.
I would only use it for a museum piece and never carry it. even if it could be fixed. I would not want to bet my life on it, even the nuclear world I live in engineers get freaked out when you mention welding/brazing to fix a piece.
