Hello all. I've been reading through the forum for sometime now b/c I have been interested in the PS90 for a long time.

Well, my tax return is back and I'm ready to go for it.

I do have a couple of Q's though, if you guys can help me out--

* The only PS90 I've handled is the regular model with the white retical sight. I didn't care for it, as well as most others from what I have read here. Therefore I am thinking of the USG model or Tri-rail instead. If the USG has a much better sight, I think it will scratch the itch BUT a tri-rail model with a Eotech might be better. Which of these set ups would be a of a higher profile? What do you guys think?

* Also, who has the USG or Tri-rails models in stock? I saw an ad in CDNN and it appears that CMMG has the original model...there's always folks on gunbroker, but they seem to be going for $200 or so more. Is that the norm?

* CMMG and magazineparts both seem like great places to get accessories. Any others?

Thanks for the advice in advance.

If you don't like the original site and are gonna replace it any way then go with the tri rail - but the prices i have seen for the tri rail are the same as the site.

If i were going to buy anohter one, i would probably try and buy the new imporved sight if there was not a big difference in $$

I'd still say ditch the stock sight, even the black one. I've seen people complain about particles caught inside of it. And, I still don't think U will get as tight of a group with it compared to an EOtech or other optic - no matter whether U get the black or white stock sight.

As for the Tri Rail - it's a matter of preference. The difference in size from the stock tri rail and a standard model with your own rails you attach isn't that great.

If for whatever reason U wanna put the stock sight back, U can if you bought the standard model. I don't regret my purchase of the standard black colored PS90 (with the white optic). The price of the tri rail comes out about the same as if U bought the standard model and bought your rails seperately.

If U come across a PS90 with the standard sight locally, I'd pick that up over ordering a tri rail across the net - that's just me...

Thanks for the info guys.

I do have a dealer here that has a PS90 in stock, but he wants too much for it IMO--$1800. I thought $1500 or so was the norm...

So the tri-rails are as much as the optic sight versions...odd, but not surprising. It appears that I would be spending more if I got the original version since I'll probably replace the sight anyway. However if I got the original and decided to sell down the road, I could put the original sight back on...choices, choices.

ETA: just called CDNN and they have the USG model for $1699. Good deal?

Well, I paid $1499 for my all black PS90 in Dec 2006. U can typically get the green models for $100 less than that.

Yes, the tri rails are selling for more than the stock guns w/ the regular sights.

I paid $179 for my optic rail, two side rails and a mag converter to go from 30 to 50 rounds for the mag U get with the gun. I ordered them from Magazine partts, and I think that might have included shipping - I can't remember for sure.

Now, however, one of our sponsors here has a cheaper Optic rail (U can click on the banner at the top). And, Critical Dimensions, another sponsor here, sells the side rails for $22. He sent me 1 to evaluate last week, and I just need to find the time to type everything up. So, for around $100, U can now install your own rails. I think that is a better deal.

And, I probably would have gone the cheaper route in Early Dec if I had other options.

Get the USG version. Its a great sight and you can always remove the sight to replace it with a top rail. You can also add side rails if you want the Tri-rail look.
But you can not remove the top rail of a PS90TR to put the USSS sight on it. Also the side rails on the TR are small, so small that QD lights tend ot slide right off when you put them on (you have to put them on slowly, its a pain).
The USG version give you more flexibility.

Black PS90 with USSS sight (aka PS90 USG)

Thanks to everyone for the info.

I went ahead and ordered a PS90 USG model from CDNN today. I can't wait till it gets here.

In the meantime, I'll be looking for some 5.7 and some spare mags. Oh, the brass catcher will be a must too, since I plan on reloading for this one. Can anyone think of anything else that's a must have?

I'll make sure to post pics and a range report when I get it.

Thanks again and I look forward to discussing 90's with you guys.

I got it Friday from CDNN (fast shipping!) and I am very impressed with it. I think my other guns (especially my MP5) are kinda jealous of the time I've been spending with it. Anyway, here are my impressions--

The sight: The USG, or USSS sight is MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better than the MC-10-80 reflex sight (white reticule). Unless you are thinking about aftermarket optics, I think that the USG is the only way to go.

For starters, the black reticule shows up very nice against almost all backgrounds, unlike the original's white reticule--especially against a bright background. It also seems like it isn't as dependent on collected light to show as much as the original either. This sight' s red posts seems to glow brighter as well (could be because it's newer?)....Lastly, my sight is very clear with no "specs" as mentioned by some owners--which I was relieved to see.

So overall I'd rate this sight an 8 out of 10. It's built well and is effective, but I think it could be improved by having a slightly larger sight picture and brighter posts for the "nighttime". So far I don't have any plans on changing it, even though I am a fan of both the Eotech and Aimpoint.

Accuracy: So far I've only shot it at an indoor range at 25 yds, but it did as well as I expected. Recoil was very low, less than my MP5, which was surprising. Later this week I'll take it to the outdoor range and shoot it at 50. I'll report back later with pics on the results.

Other: I'm sure others have said it as well, but too bad FN didn't take the time to properly finish the optical sight group....First thing I did was "velcro" this sucker--thanks for the head's up guys....I really enjoy how the rifle breaks down--very nice....Trigger pull kinda sucks, but I've seen worse.

I'm not sure if I'm going to SBR this one of not. Afterall, it is already shorter than my MP5 (with fixed stock)! Still, the look of a SBR'd PS90 is pretty sweet...

Soon I'll buy some accessories--notably a case collector (I'll reload this one) and a sling. The urban E.R.T. slings on this site look pretty sweet. I'm also thinking about some side rails.

Lastly, I want to thank you guys for the advice, you have another happy PS90 owner amongst you now! :D
