With all the recent striker fired designs (Glock, Walther P99, S&W Sigma and M&P) it is interesting that FN decided to go with a hammer on the Five-seveN instead, especially since the hammer is covered and not accessible for thumb cocking and decocking as it is on the FNP pistols. Any idea why the hammer was chosen over a striker fired design?

This probably interests me so much because the Five-seveN's profile has always reminded me of a Mauser 1934, grown up and modernized to the n-th degree. :)
