I recently purchased a FNX40. I was wondering what dry firing does to the gun. Any information would be good. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

Dry firing is just fine. I do use snap caps to practice reloads/malfunctions.

The gun will be fine. To dampen the hit of the hammer on the firing pin, I'll sometimes put one of those cheap foam ear plugs in between the hammer and firing pin.

My FNX would be toast.... I literally dry fired it a counted 2000 times right after I got it. It took five hours or so. And there were lots of uncounted dry firings before and after that.

Come to think of it, I suspect its been dry fired more than live fired. I don't think its had 600 rounds down the barrel.

YMMV, but its a good mechanism, not subject to breakage easily.
