Sorry if I am repeating a question, but I have searched for more recent threads and I FAILED! lol......Newbie alert!!!!

Yesterday I took my FNX-9 out to the range for only the second time. All of my rounds were below center and the instructor suggested that I practice my trigger pull by dry firing. I cleaned my pistol this morning, since I had to work last night. When I went to practice, the gun would not operate Double Action. It has no problem when I try it Single Action. But without the hammer back, I can pull the trigger all the way to the back without a release. Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? And will it be a problem when live firing? This is my first handgun, though I have fired and cleaned them many times.

:welcomesigntb3: to the Forum, regrettably I can't assist with your problem. I don't have a FNX 9 just a 45 and it works fine either single or double action. Is it the same with and without an empty magazine in the firearm? Have you ever dry fired before and most say it is OK but I would suggest getting some snap caps if you plan on dry firing a lot. It is a good exercise to get used to just moving your finger on the trigger without moving your hand. Good luck, someone will be along soon that should be able to assist.

Does the exact same thing with or without a magazine, with or without the slide. I have noticed that I can hold the trigger and eventually it might release. I've noticed several things that seem peculiar to me since I've been eyeballing it. Such as, the hammer isn't going all the way back completely, there seems to be a catch, it will release if I put a little downward pressure on the decock lever. Not sure if there's a "rock" in the mechanism or something has just come loose. ::FF::

Oh...didn't answer all your questions! I've never dry fired it for practice. Only a couple times to see that it works.

Unfortunately sounds like it will need to go back to FN. Sounds like something is either broken or loose in the fire control group.

You are unable to set the hammer back (SA) by either cocking the slide or pulling the hammer back with your thumb; the pistol will only work in DA mode. The problems began when operating the pistol at home when dry firing but the pistol works fine with ammunition (range); Dry firing the FNX will not cause any problems. If you cannot pull the hammer back or if you pull the trigger and the hammer does not move or the hammer does not strike the firing pin there is a problem with the FCG and the pistol will need to be serviced by FNH USA.

Take the slide off and see if the trigger/hammer works normally. Use the palm of your hand in front of the hammer to ease the hammer forward when/if it releases normally. Basically it lets you know if it is the FCG or an issue with the spring/firing pin block button thingy on the bottom of the slide. If the spring for the firing pin block binds up it can cause issues similar to what you describe.

My FNX 40 did that when I put new sights on it. After removing the sights again and fixing that spring placement it worked fine again.

Send it back to FN. they will tell you 5-8 week turn around, mine took less than a week for replacement of trigger and FCG.

Had the exact opposite problem. I had no issue with the double action, so with hammer down it would fire one round. After the first shot it would not fire in single action mode.

I took it back to Cabela's and they sent it back to FNH for repairs. Unfortunately FNH the did not say what did to correct the problem with SA mode. I have fired over 1200 rounds without issue now.

so I've tried a few times to replicate your issue, And all I can come up with is if after dropping the take down Lever/pin ( call it what you must) and sliding the slide off the frame . if at this point you drop the hammer at any point while cleaning the gun and not replacing the hammer to the cocked position and re mounting the slide you can end up with the exact issue you're describing. not saying it cant happen any other way but that's all I could come up with. That or you broke something while at the range or when cleaning it.

You mentioned that your FNX-9 shoots low. I have found the same to be true. While not very experienced with handguns, the two of us that shot it both were consistently 6" or so low at 7-10 yards. I've seen others say the same. I'm not sure what to make of it at this point.

It may be that you are using the wrong sight picture for the FN pistol. In this picture #3 is the correct picture for the FNP/FNX automatics.
If you use #1 or #2 as learned in the past your POI will be low.

poi in fixed sight handguns depends on ammo and distance. using 850fps 230grn fmj in my fnx45t #2 is where my poi is in relation to poa at 15yds. use a lighter faster bullet or a shorter distance or longer or heavier or slower or some combination of those variables from factory test ammo poi will shift.

most common cause of low poi is shooter error.

to detect what your doing have a friend load your pistol while you are facing away sometimes have your friend load a spent case. the feedback you get when it goes click instead of boom is invaluable for fixing shooting technique errors that the recoil of the gun going off tends to hide.

Every time I've seen the issue, (SA fine, no DA), it has ended up needing to go back to FN. What FNX model-9, 40,or 45? You may want to check for a cracked fire control housing. If that's the case you can either send it back to FN, or try to fix it yourself.
