Does anyone know if Elcan (Raytheon) ever has plans to release the 1.5-6X DR in Dark Earth like they did for the 1-4X?

Is this ever a possibility? I would buy one immediately for my 17 if they ever did - just curious if maybe they already have and I just missed it maybe?

I have the Elcan 1.5x-6x on my 17s and love it. Why wait to pay more for an FDE version? If your optic is the only part of your kit that isn't FDE, I don't think you'll stand out too badly.

(Full disclosure: I did buy the FDE 1x-4x for my Scar 16...)

From a functional standpoint, I know it doesn't matter - it's the collector in me though that wants the theater correct FDE Elcan 1.5-6X - otherwise I would just get the black one.

Again, for the same reason I bought an FDE SCAR over a black one - I think it's fun to collect and clone guns that have been used in the GWOT.

Sadly, there will never be a "limited edition FDE 1.5-6x" similar to the "limited edition FDE 1-4x." Armament Technology (Elcan's North American distributor) is sitting on a ton of "limited edition FDE 1-4x" due to someone making an overly optimistic purchase order. They are sore about it too. Shouldn't be our problem, but unfortunately it is because they blame us for the costly error. Any of us here could have predicted it, considering that they took so long to make the "limited edition FDE 1-4x" project a reality. The military was already in the process of phasing out of the 1-4x (SU230 - 5.56 and SU230A - 7.62) and moving into the 1.5-6x models. By the time the "limited edition FDE 1-4x" came to market the public (me included) was already lusting after the mil-FDE 1.5-6x. Aside from finding that unicorn (see link)...a real-deal mil-FDE 1.5-6x...none of us will ever have a factory-finish FDE 1.5-6x (mil-FDE or "limited edition FDE"). Having someone paint a black one...eh, not for me. Too bad that ATI has this stance because they'd sell a ton of them immediately. Elcan is ready and willing to move forward on a "limited edition FDE 1.5-6x" but ATI is in the driver seat as far as placing the order and investing the $ in the project. Elcan doesn't just make them to make them. They make them to order.

Well if anyone knows I'm sure your the one. I'd rather have the 1-6x Fde Elcan while we're wishing for the elusive hens teeth of combat optics. :?

Thanks. I wish I was better connected than I am. I pick up bits and pieces of info here and there. Perhaps a little more than most, but nothing that resembles inside information. I think the whole situation is a little more complex than I originally thought considering that Elcan is primarily a military sales driven entity as well as a Canadian manufacturing entity. Out of frustration, I took the low road and placed the blame with ATI, being that they are the North American importer/distributor that deals directly with the North American retailers. I was wrong to draw that conclusion and I sincerely apologize for that. There are great people at ATI. That being said, Elcan is willing to produce FDE civilian versions of their current mil-line up. However, understandably there are production run minimum item counts that must be met. It is the North American retailers that must pool together to create the minimum orders necessary. Contrary to what my previous post inferred, it is not ATI’s responsibility to tie up capital and gamble on what the public may or may not want.

Regarding the 1x/6x, I don’t think that one is in the cards as the prototypes apparently weren’t deemed to be a drastic improvement over the currently fielded 1.5x/6x during mil-evals. Sorry, but hey keep wishing. You truly never know! Me? I'm wishing for a SOCOM 1.5x/6x in 7.62.
