I've ran both a 553 and EXPS 3-0 with a G33 magnifier it's a pretty good set up very fast for under 100 yards with the magnifier flipped out of the way and you can get some magnification for target ID or helping with shots out past 300m with the magnifier flipped up.

I have the eotech 552 w/ 308 reticle on my 17s along with the magnifier. I have my 13" barrel assembly w/ suppressor on the gun now and I have gone out plinking. The eotech still seems to be zeroed when I have just gone out to plink. I need to check my zero because I think I would have some shift at longer ranges with the changes to the 17.

it seems like scar could be better short range gun instead of long range shooter
I am curious as to what makes you say this? Also, I wouldn't run an eotech on mine with so many better optics choices out there for such a sweet shooting gun. Minute of beer can at 450 yards is a heck of an accomplishment for a semi auto .308.

I'm running EOTech 553.A65TAN & G33.STSTAN and love it. For fun I mount my PVS-14 with LaRue's QD Pivot Mount during the 4th of July or whenever the camps shoot off fireworks at night. Even though I use a suppressor it's still loud in a valley where my property and a YMHA camp filled with rich NY&NJ kids are during the summer.

I have that setup on my 16s not my 17s. Honestly seems a wasted potential on the 17...BUT as some others might suggest, your 'mission' is the best source to gauge which attachments are best for what you need. Unfortunately I have an Eotech EXPS 3-4, I find it 'busy', for quick work, often wish I would have gotten the good 'ol 3-0 model with the single dot, and as eotechs have done to many others..exposed the truth that I have an astigmatism, it's kinda fuzzy unmagnified yet quite crisp with the magnifier engaged.

I'm assuming you have prior experience with an eotech so know about this, but if you dont, do yourself a favor and see if you can look through one at a store or a buddys before spendig that not insignificant money yourself. I have gone a lifetime with presumed "good vision"...and then I got an eotech...

Astigmatism affects all red dots and not just Eotech sights.

I run an eotech 512 with a 3x g33 magnifier on my 17s. Great setup for my situation (hog hunting and SHTF). You take a little potential off the top end but ithe depends on your intended use.

With magnifier great, but just an EO tech on a 308 in my opinion is not utilizing the full potential of this weapon system.
I agree. To fully gain the benefit of the various .308 loadings you need a scope. This rifle is awesome at 300 meters+ and you can't do that with a red dot. Of course with QD mounts,
you can have the best of both worlds if that's what you wish.
