I thought Aimpoint got the contract for the Army?
They've had it for years as the M68, which was the Comp M2 at first, and now the new Comp M4 is the new hotness.

Eotech wanted in on it, and they wanted in on the SOPMOD, which they did have for a while, until SOPMOD yanked all of them bought by the Army out of the field.

What gives? I loved the Eotech I had in the sandbox, it was a stellar performer. Have the units been experiencing failures?

One positive byproduct of the contract loss might be that the price will go down. Then the common man can afford one.

update: Finally read what happened. All this over the stupid instructions for how tight to tighten the locking nut? That's the lamest crap I've ever heard.

This is a prime example why people should not read too much into why the military or LE uses something or refuses to use something.

Maybe it's because I'm cynical but I wouldn't put it past the government to ditch an item in favor of a less expensive alternative and then slander the better one just so it doesn't get accused of giving the soldiers inferior gear.

If they bought the EOTech 553 with the dual throw levers, they wouldn't have to worry about needing a tool to attach the optic to the rail. Of course that's more expensive so they probably wouldn't go for it.

Actually the Aimpoint M4 is more 'spensive than the Eotech.

SOPMOD yanking them was unrelated to the above situation, that was due to most of the ones they got crapping the bed, bad wire connections.

I've had eotechs and never held on to them.
They just never grew on me as you needed to worry about battery life and having to turn them on / off when using and changing the brightness when indoor vs outdoor.

I like the aimpoint comp C3 2moa rod dots, as one battery will last you 5.7years, and also the trijicon acog/reflex battery less sights. They work very well for me and never have to worry about batteries going out, or minute adjustments for different lights with dumb buttons on the front and sides.

Sad though the reason they lost the contract.
