Hi all. I'm one of the continuous lurkers and have been trying to find any info regarding the release of the FNP w/ external safety in the regular (non USG) models. It seems FN is planning on producing FNPs w/ the external safety, I was just wondering if anyone had any info as to the date we might be able to get our hands on these.

Thanks for any responses.

Regular FNP's only have the decocker. The USG designation simply means it has the external safety. I haven't seen any all black USG's or ones with the stainless slide though.

I believe the Browning pro-9 and pro-40 also come with external safety and can be found all black or with the stainless slide. The only difference on the Browning is the markings.

I know the Brownings have the external safety, but supposedly FN is gonna start producing them as well. I want to get a Matte Black FNP-9 with the external safety and I was just hopin FN would start producing them before Obama gets any crazy legislation passed.

They are out. Someone in another thread was going to buy one. FN doesn't have the matte black ones listed on their site, but they should be out there.

Hi jgrint1. I am new to the forum. I saw what you are looking for at the NRA convention in Louisville, KY. It was pretty sweet. I also have the new catalog that has the produst number for you. It is 47921 with night sights or 47923 without the night sights. Both of those are with 14 round magazines. The catalog lists USG models as the ones with the dark earth frame. I will try and find out when it comes out and post for ya.

Awesome. That's what I've been hoping to hear. Really appreciate it.

Seabee, I just looked at the catalog and those product numbers are for the FNP-45. What I'm looking for is an FNP-9 w/ the external safety that has the black polymer frame instead of the FDE.

I'm sorry. I thought you wanted the FNP-45 number. I have the catalog in front of me right now and the only one I see that has an external safety is in FDE. Again, sorry for getting your hopes up.

Haha, no worries man. I'm out of the country till mid January anyway, so it's not like I can act on my desires even if I could figure out where to find what I'm looking for.
Yeah, that does suck. I would call FNH USA and ask them. I found out they are making a shooters pack for the .45 with a manual safety. They might be making one for the 9mm.

I have the FNP-45 USG in the matte stainless steel two-tone finish with the black polymer grip. It has the extra set of serrations on the front end of the slide and the Safety as well as the Decocker.

I had only requested the FNP-45, but that's what they gave me. I'm happy and she's a beauty!

Might even give her a name. That would be a first!

What kinda pisses me off is that it would be an easy conversion to add the safety to the early models (who cares about the front serations) but FN says no plans, I guess that is what we get for buying too soon. I will remember this the next time I buy a FN product.

Were you the guy that said he got a tour of the factory when he purchsed his .45?
Buds gun shop has the manuel saftey in black buts its more money at $541
Is that the shooters pack or just the pistol?

I agree, it would be an easy conversion. I called and asked about the USG in black with night sights. The guy said that they are not going to make the FNP-45 with night sights anymore because of low sales. It will be an accesory you can buy from them (for more money, of course  ).

I have spent a lot of time researching the gun and have never ran across one for sale with night sights. If I had I would have bought one.
Now I have to get a set and a sight tool as well.
Since the sight has to be moved to fiddle with the firing pin I may as well get one so I can service that when needed.

I was just lookin at the FN website and the pictures that you can click on to see different angles of the FNPs show the guns w/ serrations on the front of the slide and the decocker raised (like on the USG). It almost looks like there's a little red hidden behind the decocker too. I wonder if they might start making them (or more of them) like the USG now?

That is a USG model with black frame and a matte stainless slide in those pictures, but the disclaimer "Images may vary slightly from actual product" is a pretty clear indicator that this is probably not an option available to you or me. I would like it to be, though. My Uncle deals FN so he's looking for a USG 9 for me, but I've come to accept the fact that I get FDE. Honestly, the color has grown on me.

I have never seen one either, but the 2008 catalog lists a USG and a standard SA/DA model with night sights. They are numbers 47926 and 47911 respectfully for the 14 round matte black stainless. But, like I said earlier, they are not going to put night sights on them. I found out Ameriglo is going to make night sights for the 9mm, .40, and .45 models, but I do not know about sight tools.

They are going to make or are already making a black model USG. In fact they have or are going to have a shooters pack out. It is item number 47977. I already have my usual FFL dealer buddy finding one to put in lay a way for me. :D
I might mention that I am only talking about the 45. I do not know anything about the 9mm or .40.

Currently, the 9 and 40 USG models only come in FDE as far as I know, while the 45 USG does not come in FDE yet. Ameriglow already has night sites for the 9 and 40, and I believe the 45 front, with rear soon to follow.

I've got a 9 USG in FDE. I like it. It's my first pistol and the FDE frame really helps in showing where to clean. I'm a bit of a clean freak with my guns, but from what I hear, that's a good thing
I also like the FDE. If I ever get a SCAR, they'll match! :p
