My brand new FDE 16s arrived today! Something that immediately gave me pause was the fact I can only set the fire selector to "safe" when the rifle is cocked - but it won't go into the "safe" position when the rifle is un-cocked. That is normal for a lot of firearms, so I didn't think much about it until plowing-though the owner's manual which instructs a fellow to set the fire selector to "safe" to store the rifle. Unless they are suggesting that one store the thing cocked, either that's a mistake in the manual, or I'm missing something here... It is normal to be unable to put the SCAR on "safe" when it isn't cocked, right?

Same as an AR.

The forward/uncocked hammer position holds the trigger slightly low, so when the hammer swings back for the next round, the sear is already partially forward, so it can re-engage the hammer easier. As a result, the safety won't engage.
