After reading about reloading the 5.7x28 I looked at some of my fired brass just out of curiosity. I noticed that a lot of the SS195 primers were flattened out, some very flat. SS198's are only somewhat flattened but almost every one seems to show a good bit of cratering around the indentation. American eagle primers don't show any signs of flattening or cratering at all but it's a slower round.

Is this normal for factory 5.7 ammo? Could it be that the lead free primers have a weaker cup? The only other thing I can think of that would cause flat primers is too much headspace.

There are some pretty knowledgeable members here, if one of them doesn't chime in to help .... I will ask a couple of guy's I know. I do alot of testing with various rounds but mostly out of the PS... I do shoot my FsN's frequently. I would think that a headspace problem or problems... would be all over the board but if too much clearance is present .... some of the reloaders would be seeing the case crack or seperate on subsequent firings.... now with that said... I have seen recently some PS issues where the casing has seperated/cracked while shooting out of the PS and screwing things up... I wonder if this is a from some newer ammo ????

Thanks, that alleviates some of my worries about the cratering although they are coming out of the FSN a bit flatter than yours. I've seen a few as flat as the one on the middle left. The 195 and 198 were from '14 according to the headstamp.

Mine may look a little more prominent since I've had my firing pin hole chamfered so there's more area for the primer to flow into.
