i just bought mine...havent even shot it yet, hopefully this weekend. its an egyptian 7.92x57 with a new walnut stock. i knew it wasnt original because i did my research (there is supposed to be a brass disc on stock etc...)but i figuered i rather have one in good operable condition that i can enjoy. i paid 799 and it hurt my wallet bad but i hope it was worth it. i found a more original 49, but in 30-06 which i thought was cool. he only wanted 500 at a gun show but he was kinda sketchy about it, i dont think he wanted to do a legal transfer for some reason...i just had a bad feeling. anyways the stock was pretty beat up and so was the barrel. mine has nice sharp grooves and the finish looks great. (of course a real collector would want all original etc. ) i was really torn on that decision but maybe later i will look for a real nice original condition.
