FNP-9 Decocker Only to Manual Safe/Decock conversion?

4815 Views 12 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Cooter
I am new to the forum so hello to all. I was wondering if anyone has or knows what I need to do / Parts to get to convert my decocker only model FNP-9 to the manual saftey / decocker model like the Browning Pro or the USG models. Seems like I should be able to do it. My frame even has the depression to fill with red paint. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The parts are not available from FN for this.

Lots of us want to make this conversion, but at this time it is not possible.
I like that mine's a decocker-only model.

I like that mine has the safety as well. I can carry it cocked and locked if I want, or if I'm just carrying it around the house, it gives me added security that I'm not going to bump the trigger/get it caught on something and go off (although I always have it holstered, so it would be highly unlikely). It is fairly obvious visually if the safety is on. Also, if you do start to pull the trigger with it on (and in double action) it has almost no weight to it, but flipping it off is just a quick flip of the lever. I personally like the added security.

Madhouse, The question is about the gun, not your avatar! :x
I have called FN and they said that they do not have complete fire control modules but "have parts" and can sell them to me but they can not tell me what I need etc to make the conversion. I was thinking I need a new safe / decock lever, sear, and hammer but am not sure. Anyone?

The easiest would be to replace the fire control unit that houses the hammer. Its a complete drop in unit. I don't see why they wouldn't sell this part. I think it might be something that has to go to an FFL. Maybe have a good FFL look into it to see is they can get that part for you.

On another note, I am am hoping to get a thread up this weekend about the complete tear down and assembly of these pistols. I just tore my browning pro 40 down completely so it will deal with the mag safety as well as removing that fire control group. I took as many pictures as I could.

Excellent, I am very interested in the step by step explanation in case I want to do a deep cleaning someday. :?
same here B52U. I actually kind of already want to, but not willing to potentially ruin my only pistol figuring it out. If someone else wants to experiment on theirs and if it works, I might also do it. But until then, I'm not doing anything beyond what is in the manual.
Cooter: Could you email the pics ([email protected]) of the parts in the fire control unit? I would like to compare them to mine so I can see what the differences are and order the parts that are different.

FN told me they would not sell the complete fire control units. The frame with the serial number would be the only FFL item. I think their concern is liability. I talked with Bob there and he said they are looking at offering sending in our guns for the conversion but it would be after the first of the year before he had any answers and I wna to do it now.
Cooter, can you explain how the firing pin retainer comes out? I would like to get in there and clean up my firing pin area.
I just finished resizing the pics. I will get them uploaded later and hopefully the thread posted Saturday night.
