It's an interesting phenomenon.

When I take the 40 or 45 to the range I get the same questions and reactions, unless the guy, or lady is ex military. Then I usually get a knowing nod.

It's amazing how little is known of FN. Lots of folks think they are a new company. Pretty funny. Been in business longer than HK, Sig, Browning, and lots of others.

But talk to another FN owner...

:?

At the last show up here someone had an FS2000 on their table, just for display. I mentioned I owned a couple of FNPs, and it was like I had a new best friend. He let me handle the FS2000 (I really liked it BTW), and then he did a total field strip of it to show how easy it was.

The brand will take hold in this country. I just hope FNH-USA can get the sales numbers they want to keep the civilian side going in the interim.

I can't stand XD users at my range, they are snob's with their pistols. Ive shot an XD, sure it's nice but i wouldnt buy one. Or an M&P..if you want something without a hammer go with Glock or an P30 or USP tactical hammerless..just my thoughts.

mine is FNP 40 btw, i saw a FNP45 finally at a local shop today for 515 before tax, but think i will wait. I really want to get a new CCW gun, i was packing a Interarm's PPK..or my Ruger SP101, but sold the SP101...and ppk is more of a novelity for me..i would only carry it seldom. The ruger was my main ccw..wheel gun goes bang everytime and drops anything.

have an itch for the Sig 239 compact, or an FNP9-m..if i can find one..been lookin on guns america and broker and only found 2 that were a bit more then i would prefer to pay..but might just pay it. So many Carry guns now.

The para warthog is kinda of neat, but way out of price..might aswell get the sig

All XD's are is a rebadged Glock made in U.S.A. Which FNP did you get?
Actually it's a re-badged HS 2000 made in Croatia.

No, they're made by the US Governmental Arsenal (Springfield Armory)

I have never been a fan of Springfield Armory since they took their name to fool people into believing they were the original "Springfield Armory" that provided the arms for the US troops. Now you tell me the XD is not even made in the USA (not that I'm partial to USA guns, it's just that when you pose as a USA arms manufacturer by taking the name, then by golly you should make your guns in the USA).

Check with CDNN for the FNP-9m, they had some cheap from what I have heard.
As for new striker fired, I love the hammer on the FNP, all I had were GLOCKs, now my FNP is my favorite handgun with the DA/SA hammer.

"Springfield Armory" is not the US Government Arsenal. Sorry to break the news, but after the fiasco they pulled with the M-14 the DoD closed the US Government Arsenal at Springfield in 1968. It is now a National Park administered by the Park Service.

All XD pistols are made in Croatia and imported by Springfield Armory, a company that has nothing to do with the US Govt. in any way.

Since this discussion has included a lot of comparisons with XD's, maybe someone can explain a perception issue that has been bugging me.

The first time I saw an XD, I hated it. It looked huge and "blocky" (still does to me), but when I saw the FNP-9, I fell in love and bought one.

The interesting thing is, they use the same holsters so they must be about the same size and shape.

What's the explanation?

BTW I like hammer fired over striker fired.

Overal size is one thing, proportion is something else entirely.

The FNP series, from 9 to 45 are well proportioned designs. The ratio of size between their slides and grip frame are very pleasing to the eye, IMHO, and more importantly, very pleasing in the hand.

The designers at FN are to be commended on this design, and the FNP-45 in particular. How they managed to make high cap .45 ACP pistol fit smaller hands so well is an amazing achievement. Before I purchased my FNP-45 I was seriously considering a Glock 21, but even in it's "SF" configuration it still feels blocky and combersome in the hand. The FNP however, is fast becoming the benchmark by which all high cap .45s are judged.
