Even with the mag "not perfectly in-line w/ the magwell"?
The straight shot works for sure, but with the pistol mag aiming slightly forward and to the right.
-or basically the mag's upper metal sliding gently toward the front right of the magwell.

It surely hits the hard flat face of the mag release, which forces the reinsertion and slight direction change "just like a robot Roomba carpet vacuum".
-(Robot voice) "go, hit blockage....stop, access, blockage occurred, realign,....proceed movement....

OK - that settles things for me. I am definitely going H&K. I am just not going to "risk" the purchase of a $1,000 + new in box product with such seemingly broad production (or worse, design AND production problems). I owned an H&K previously and their quality is nearly above the law.

Sorry to all: I shoot the FNX Tactical 45 so well but the money took too long to earn and save.

Any confirmation if FN has made a new designed mag release that can be installed yourself? I really don't want to wait 5 weeks.

My FNX 45 tactical (and a couple of others that I handled on the same day that I purchased mine) that I purchased in early 2013 does not have an issue no matter what angle that I insert the magazine from.

I was told that the mag release area of the gun needs to be fine tuned and that it should be sent in. There is no redesigned mag release that they can send you for your own install.

Before anyone rags on me, let me say FN is a quality company. I also own 2 SCAR 16's and love them both. Zero problems. That being said, I sold my FNX45 tac not too long after I received it. And FNH CS was a mix of apathetic and seemingly unaware of their own products. They did not seem prepared to remedy anything in a hurry. From what I read on the forum, it seems like everyone has varied experiences with both the gun and the CS.

My mag sticking went away after only a small amount of usage.

My mag stuck the first few dry releases...now it's flawless.

I just got mine recently and it sticks. I don't really notice a problem with the inability to insert the magazine unless I intentionally try to induce it. What I don't like is that my magazines won't drop. Even full, they slide down a tiny bit and sloooooowly slide out. I am taking it to the range today and I will beat the hell out of this thing; if that doesn't work, I will just file that part down. Thanks for the write up by the way. I love the gun, but am annoyed that I have this magazine drop issue, a capability of preventing magazine insertion, and multiple barrel marks without me having even shot the gun. I wouldn't send my gun in as the mag issues are an easy fix, but for what they charge for the gun, I am disappointed.

The mag catch isn't necessarily responsible for the slow drop you are describing. Is the magazine clear of the catch when they are still dropping slowly? I have found the mags expand quite a bit when full. Do they also drop slowly when empty?

You know, I didn't think to try that. I have had them full since I got them based on the recommendation of other members, but I will try and see if that changes the problem. So I just gave it a try and you are right. The magazine flies out of the magwell when it is empty. The mag clears the mag catch when full, but immediately after it starts its slow decent down. It may just need to have more use.

Mine would catch both empty and full. The mag catch drags on the mag, not due to the swelling of the mag but due to a poorly engineered or manufactured mag catch. You can see the drag marks on the magazine.

I picked up my FNX-45 Tactical on Friday the 7th, the test fire date was 10/10/13 and I have the same issues as outlined in this forum. The magazines catch on the magazine release as well as the barrel being chewed up. I don't have any of these issues on my S&Ws, Glocks, or my Sig and even after hundreds of rounds through my new S&W Pro the barrel looks new.

So I called FN today and they want me to pay to send the gun in so they can take a look at the issue. I brought up to "John" that this was a known issue and he claimed to not know about it. After spending over $1,000 on a handgun why should I then have to pay to ship it to FN to correct a known issue? At this point I'm ready to never buy from FN again after such a poor experience. I guess I should have gone with the HK .45 even though I could not easily put on an RMR.

Not happy with FN's poor customer service and apparently poor quality control/design.

I thought maybe they had fixed the issue on the later builds, apparently not. "John" said he never heard of these issues? Gimme a break! I will be wringing out my repaired and optimized FNX .45T tomorrow. Hopefully all goes well.

Purchased mine in early January 2014. Build date shows 11/13. Mine catches a bit, but after playing with it a few times... it feeds fine. Not as pronounced.

I'm starting to second guess my purchase too. Held an hk45 at my local gun shop and no issues with the magazines or mag release. Oh well, guess I'll save up for the hk and have both.

Yes, very true.

If a ban happens, the Hk45 and 10rd mag are a good investment.
In the end, both are enjoyable to shoot.

Well if the choice is 15 rounds that may or may not enter the mag well smoothly when you really need it to, or a 10 rounder that works as you would expect to each and every time regardless of the manner in which the mag was inserted into the mag well. I will would rather have some ammo than no ammo in my handgun.


On a positive note, after sending my .45T to CIF in Utah, the mag issue is resolved. I ran 350 rnds through it, zero malfunctions of any kind. Mag changes went as they should. Still adjusting to the trigger and feel of the handgun verse the SIG 220 SAO I am currently carrying.
