I'm just getting around to buying another Tactical since a sold my FDE one. This one is black. I just put it on layaway at Cabelas. They took $150 off for me because they couldn't find me an FDE one. I noticed the msg didn't drop free, it was pretty snug. The build date is 10-2013. Should I be concerned? Thanks for any replies.

No! It might just be cosmoline build up! not being cleaned after test firing and Since it has sat for over a year it probably just needs a good Cleaning!

My black unit exhibited similar magazine release as you described. Once cleaned, no issues.

I have had major issues with the mag not dropping free on my gun. Sent back to a FN warranty center to have a look, they filed down the little ramps in the mag well until they are almost gone, and it still doesnt really work right. Some FNX tactical's have mag release issues. I'd stay away if it doesnt drop free. Try and find another. FN seems to produce a fair amount of lemons. Disappointing since the rest of the gun is great.

A lot of the mag release / insertion issues are connected to the mag release bar itself. Its not hard to troubleshoot it and fix it yourself. Usually just pop the slide off and look down into the magwell while you insert / release the mag and it'll be apparent where the problem is. Many issues can be solved by beveling the bottom edge of the release bar in the required spot. If the mag seems to release freely as long as you push in the mag release button this is most likely your issue. If the mag seems to jam during insertion, this is your issue. I don't really know why FNH continues to produce and ship pistols with these issues, but they do.
