FNX-9 Range Report.

First the obligatory pic...

Went to the indoor range this morning and fired the following rounds...
5 Speer Gold Dot 115gr. jhp.

10 Hornady XTP 115gr. jhp.

25 Remington Golden Saber 147gr. jhp.

100 S&B Range Safe 115gr. fmj.

100 Federal Champion 115gr. fmj.

Total 240 rounds.

No malfunctions of any kind. It ran like the well made pistol it is.

It did take some time for me to get familiar with it, as it definitely wanted less "trigger finger" than my FNP 45 or 1911, and I do not profess to be a pistolero by any stretch. However, once I got the trigger worked out it was very satisfying. The above photo represents a full 100 rounds of the Federal Champion (same thing as Blazer Brass, from Wally World) fired at 25 feet as quickly as my Maglula Uplula would let me reload the mags. I did not rush the shots, however.

Recoil is very soft IMHO for such a light, short pistol. Certainly not as forgiving as my all steel CZ 75B, but totally comfortable and controllable.

I also must thank FNH-USA for the large, easy to pick up sights on the FNX. My 56 year old eyes are very pleased with them. They are very easy to pick up the sight picture, and that coupled with the really good grip angle and ergos of the pistol bring it on target very fast. A natural pointer, at least for me.

My verdict?

Keeper.

Great news on your pistol. I have to agree that the sites are top notch, and I like how the trigger feels as well. It has a smooth break and the short reset helps me allot with follow-up shots. One question though, when you lock the slide back on yours, do both levers contact the slide, or just one?
Very nice

Good report, and I agree, it looks like it's a keeper :?

You know I never checked that. I'll have a look.

BTW, I checked the single action trigger pull weight with my old RCBS scale after I cleaned it today. It dropped .25lbs to 4.5 after firing the 240 rounds.
Please do, because I just checked mine and the slide is cut so that the slide rests on the left side lever before it hits the right by about 2 mm and I want to make sure this is normal. And yes, the trigger was smooth brand new, but it keeps getting better the more I dry fire. I can actually see the sear getting shiny.
Mine is exactly as yours is.

The left side lever does the work of holding the slide. I suspect this is by design as getting both to make simultaneous contact would be difficult in production, and unnecessary in practice.
Eccellent, that's what I wanted to hear, thanks man.

The 45's are the same way (by design), and if you ever call FN, they'll tell you it's a slide stop and they don't recommend using it to release the slide.
Thanks MODS for moving this to the proper place!

:p
BlitzPig,

I bought a new FNX-9 because your remarks on the sites.

"I also must thank FNH-USA for the large, easy to pick up sights on the FNX. My 56 year old eyes are very pleased with them. "

I also have old eyes.
