It's still 1/12" twist, right? Was it a bullet stability issue that 13" came about? Or was it because of the original AAC over-the-barrel flash hider suppressor mounts? Or is there another reason?

If it's not a bullet stability issue, and besides being obnoxiously loud and flashy, why not shorter?

Please educate me.

Thanks

It was developed for CQC. At 13" a 168gr projectile is only moving around 2300 fps. It has poor range due to the reduced velocity, but the rifle is more maneuverable inside buildings.

Seems like it's still in the 2400s at 13".
I dug this up for y'all.

So about 50fps per inch lost... 150fps lost really isn't that bad. As I understand it, at 16" the .308 goes transsonic at around 800 yards. At 13", the .308 goes transsonic at around 700 yards. So for 3" less, you're only losing out on about 100 yards of maximum supersonic range. Seems like the 13" is still a very deadly platform at medium-long range for a battle rifle. Has me seriously considering getting one so a suppressor won't make it absurdly long.

13" was designed for CQC operations and still performs very well at ranges of 800m and less with the 175gr. M118LR and Mk316 Mod0 cartridges.

Shorter than 13" simply isn't up to the task and risk of a baffle strike increases significantly with the suppressor installed on the Mk17 Mod0.
