I'm trying to get some feedback on the the Kahles specifically the SM1 reticle. I'm currently running a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 on my 17s and wanted to add low power variable to swap between platforms.

I'm really leaning towards the Kahles and was hoping to hear some opinions and hopefully better yet, experiences with the optic.
I know it is closely related to the Sawro Z6, but I'm liking the SM1 reticle. Seems like it would work well from 0-500yds.

Thanks ahead for the feedback.

Don't know about this SM1 but I've had a Kahles 1-4X 30mm mounted on the HK91 for damn close to 20-years now. If I were to ever run out of ammo, I can use that thing as a bludgeon. Tough as nail, superb lenses.

I've got 5 Kahles scopes, love the damn things BUT I did have to send in my 1.5-6 for warranty work after shooting it on the SCAR for a little bit. I don't own any of the really new Kahles scopes, that one was a Helia C.....my newest. Kahles makes an awesome product and I imagine that their newer tactical lines are as well made as anything else out there.

DL32,

I just ordered one fromeurooptic.com (great transaction) with the SM1 reticle after going back andforth between the Kahles K16i 1-6×24 and the ELCAN 1.5-6x. The Kahles just came in yesterday afternoon.

Out of the box its fantastic glass and a lotlighter than the ELCAN 1-4x I had on my SCAR17s even with the QD mount.

I calledAndrew Bobro and he sent me one of their 30mm mounts with the latch on the right side so I can run my charginghandle on the left side with no issues. Fantasticcustomer service and communication top notch guy!

I can get yousome pics mocked up on my SCAR17 tonight. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to hit the range until maybe next weekendas I have a TDY trip scheduled for next week.

I plan ondoing a full field review once I get some time. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have.

Reticle -
The reticle is in the second focal plane and features miland half mil hash marks. The SM1 reticlefeatures an illuminated horseshoe/circle that perfectly brackets the A zone onclose fast paper and 3 Gun style paper targets and makes for extremely fastclose range transitions (think red dot).
Plenty of BDC stadia lines in order to have plenty ofhold-over’s at extended ranges depending on your zero.

Illumination -
The SM1 Reticle is daylight visible; it illuminates alarge portion of the reticle rather than just a dot in the middle. The illumination brightness adjustments aremade by a rheostat on the left side of the scope directly opposite from thewindage adjustment. The fine adjustmentsfor brightness are nice because you can dial in exactly what you need based onwhat the lighting conditions dictate. Thisreticle is bright enough to run the scope like a red dot in daylight or turn itdown and use it at night. Theillumination uses one CR2032 battery. Thescope automatically turns the illumination off if left on for more than 4 hourswithout an adjustment made.

Unlike the Leupold MK6 and MK8 offerings where you feel likeits Christmas morning with the great packaging and included accessories theKahles is pretty modest out of the box. Y

You just get the scope, manual, spare battery, lens cleaning cloth, anda good bikini cover but not one I would consider using.

I plan to head over to the local gandermountain tomorrow afternoon to look for some butler creek flip up scope covers.

Snapped a couple of quick pics of the Kahles 1-6x mocked upon my SCAR17 with the reverse Bobro mount.

Looks pretty darn slick! Can't wait to get a range report.

The weather and work finally allowed me to get out to the range last Sunday and get a good zero for 100 yards.

My plan is to ultimately zero for 200 yards once I get a chance to drive up to a longer distance range. Really enjoying this Khales scope!

I really like the adjustable ocular focus to sharpen my sight picture, elevation and windage turrets aren’t as tactile as I would like but are not bad either and don’t detract from overall function of the scope. BDC turrets might be a nice future feature for Khales to add. I really like the way the power ring works with the thumb spur making it a quick and efficient operation. As stated before the glass and coatings are spectacular and what I would expect for a rifle scope in this class.

Illumination is adjustable for intensity and is day light visible. Liking the SM1 reticle can’t wait to get it out to distance to confirm/disprove my ballistics calculations. Due to such a large ocular lenses I was not able to find a butler creek flip cap that would fit it but I was able to find one to fit the objective. The see-through bikini caps that come with the scope are well made just not my cup of tea and I don’t think I will end up using them.

The Bobro30mm mount is great kit and Andrew is very knowledgeable and actually answershis own phone. I spoke with him forabout 30 min before I purchased his mount as I wanted to make sure that themeasurements for clearances would all work out. He mocked everything up in his shop, measured, and gave me the data overthe phone. When I asked if he couldreverse the locking lever to put it on the right side he said no problem.

Really solid product I’m really thinking hardabout swapping my LaRue T-1 co-witness mount once I have some cash for a Bobro.

All in all very satisfied with my purchases looking forward to shooting out past 400yards with this set up,

USGILT - glad your Kahles arrived! Satisfied with the reticle. Wish we lived closer so I could compare my Elcan to the Kahles - I have thought about switching to the Kahles....
Well I do have orders to PCS in APR/MAY to an ROTC assignment in Iowa City and my folks are from Western Iowa on the SD & NE border so it might be a possibility!

Beautiful set up. So is this the SCAR specific mount that Bobro makes or a custom order? Also, do you feel this is a better option than your Elcan or is it a different mission goal all together? May I ask where you bought the Kahles? Thank you.

Bobro should have it's "SCAR mount" ready to roll out in about 3 weeks. It will be offered as a dual-lever unit with your choice of lever location (left or right-hand). Rings will be centered over the base.

This is Andrews normal 30mm extended QD mount I just asked him to mount the QD lever on the right side as I like to run my charging handle on the left.

The intended role for my rifle has not changed between the two scopes: DMR type of role with the ability to transition to CQB engagement ranges. When I first bought this rifle I really wanted to put the S&B 1-8 short dot on it but since that scope is pretty much vapor wear I had to look into other options.

This setup (scope & mount) is right at 24.4 ounces.16.9 ounces for the scope, 7.5 ounces for the mount which was a big selling point for me as I wanted to try and keep my rifle as trim as possible. This combination is 0.8 ounce lighter than the Vortex razor (25.2 oz) without a mount. The FOV on the Khales is a bit bigger than the Elcan or Vortex.

The SM1 reticle is very useful without being too cluttered.
I have yet to test out the BDC reticle past 400 yards but my calculated data seems promising just have to confirm at distance.

Purchased the Kahles from Eurooptic.com top notch service!

Is this thing a Mil reticle or a BDC reticle, you are using them both?
