Decisions, decisions. I've decided 'go big or go home' is in order as far as the optic I'm going to mount on my 17. I've looked around and was going to do something like KameronTKelly then stumbled across this Mark6/DAGR. I would really like to pull the trigger on this but would like thoughts from more wise forum members. I'm a greenhorn where distance shooting is concerned. I've worked over my AR15s with EXPS3 + 3x magnifier to 100 yards all day and haven't really reached further. With the 17 it doesn't seem right to stay in 100 yards. Furthermore I will be going hunting with a friend's group this fall.

What are the general thoughts on this scope combo? I like what it offers in terms of overall package, only real issue I have is weight.

I have never seen one or touched one. but hey, if i had $6k for an optic why not? (I have been lusting after the 1.1-8 with the h59 since playing with one at a match). So yeah. I would get this matk 6.

Id get the h59 retical for sure.

edit to add, i would only buy it is it was ffp. I cant find if it is.

Save money and go with the Mark 6 1-6x. No need for an aim point and depending on the hunting you plan on doing, no need for more than 6x magnification. Aim small miss small, and enjoy an all in one solution to cover 0-600m. The 1-6x is also Front Focal Plane as the above poster recommended (as do I).

All Leopold's Mark 6 & Mark 8 optics are first focal plane.

The "Aim small, miss small" saying is usually not understood. If you aim at a small area of your target, like a coat button in the center of the chest. A small miss will still be in the center mass. So when Benjamin Martin, in The Patriot, tells this to his children, he is instructing them to aim small.

I've found it for just under $4k. Still pricey but manageable. And why the H59 over the TREMOR2? Interestingly one their site the TREMOR2 is noted as front focal.

Edit: Ok found it here: http://www.leupold.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2015-reticle-information.pdf
Under Horus Reticles.
It's cheaper to buy the individual component's and put together the DAGR system your self. Just under 3K

I like the Tremor 2 and the MSC2 turrets are lower but it is not illuminated. That isn't necessary especially when teamed with the T1 IMO. It is a bit tall even with the T1 at 12 or even when set to the 1-2 O'clock position. If I was piecing it together as above would consider the AMD Delta or Recon QD mount instead of the Leupold Mark 6. The Mark 6 mount is a great mount but is not a QD mount.

Thanks for all the info/input. I like the idea of saving $$ and putting it all together myself but I'm not a fan of the offset red dot. Isn't it more of a pain to zero? I'd only be zeroing for 50m so I don't see how that would be difficult but I've read (I think it was on this forum) that it is. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I also can't find a decent 34mm mount for that Aimpoint other than the LaRue one. And it's too short to be anything but offset.

Are you sure its to short? I'm getting ready to purchase the combo package to go with my new Mark 6 when I get paid in 2 weeks. The photo's on Larue's website has it offset on a Mark 8 CQBSS which has taller turrets then the Mark 6 M5C2. To me the Larue mount looks identical to the one that comes with the Leupold DAGR package.

Can't go wrong with the Mark 6 3-18 but you already knew I was going to say that :-D! Good choice when you look through it you will know why it costs what it does.

Looks to me like the LaRue one is a tad short. Even that short front turret would be in the way. Might be why they're using a taller mount?
or, maybe Larue could not meet Leupolds production needs when they started offering the DAGR package to the civilian market as well. I'll post some pics through the looking glass in a few weeks when I get mine. I'm sure it's good to go, or Jim would not have his setup that way.

Is it me or does the 'new' DAGR mount look strikingly similar to this one:
Aimpoint Micro T-1 T-2 H-1 Mount ECOS-O 34mm Scope Tube Matte

Found it on Aimpoint's site. First listing under the 'mounts' tab here:
Product singleview

Edit: if you look lower down under the mounts tab there's an 11mm mounting plate that it looks like they're using. I also just realized the pic I posted from Leupold's site is named ECOS-O so I'm going to go with the fact that they are actually using the two Aimpoint mounts. The 34mm ring and the 11mm riser.

The ECOS-O is the DAGR mount, so yes it should look very similar haha. Keep in mind the DAGR will add a lot of heft to the rifle. Don't look at ounces added, but ounces added and their distance from the grip. SCARs are already pretty tall rifles, then you add 23oz scope with a mount and a red dot with another mount....it throws the feel way off if you're used to handling the gun with just irons. Im not knocking the mark 6, its stupid light for the optical quality you get, just something to keep in mind.

In my experience, rearward weight is far less noticeable then forward weight on a rifle. Rail-mounted offset red dot sights are closer to the bore, and allow for uninterrupted cheek-weld; while, 12 o'clock mounted red dot sights provide a larger field of peripheral vision, and are usable from either shoulder.
