BY DANA CRISWELL – February 5, 2014

Yesterday saw the death of several bills in the Mississippi Legislature. Among the dead is the Ammo Registration Bill by Omeria Scott, HB-179 which would have destroyed Mississippi’s Castle Doctrine and SB-2030 that would have required all ammo sold in Mississippi bear a unique marking or serial number.

The attempts to limit our freedoms, gather social security numbers and other personal information on gun owners have been successfully rejected by the people of Mississippi. Since the Legislature began its session in January, citizens have sent thousands of emails to their representatives and motivated Governor Bryant and Speaker Gunn to issue statements confirming their commitment to protecting Second Amendment rights.

Without the tireless work of organizations like Mississippi Carry, Mississippi for Liberty, citizens like Rick Ward and thousands of Mississippi Gun News readers, those opposing freedom, liberty, and the Second Amendment would have been successful. I am proud to live in a State that has stood up to the anti-freedom, anti-American ideas. To all of you who have spent your time reading and understanding these proposed laws, and calling and emailing State lawmakers, I congratulate you on your amazing effort and success.

You are being opposed by powerful and influential people and organizations within the State, but average citizens have stood up and made themselves heard. Paid lobbyist have fought hard against HB-314, which takes way the ability of local governments to place their citizens in danger with “no-gun” signs. But HB-314 survived committee and now moves on to the House for consideration. This is a huge success that proves if citizens are loud enough and strong enough they can make a difference and defeat those who care more about their power and control than the safety and rights of citizens.
Do Not Give Up – The Battle Continues You can not stop. The battle continues now that bills like HB-314 and HB-705 are under consideration in the House and the Senate. It is a long uphill battle but the citizens of Mississippi can not give up because freedom is on the line.

Here is the list of bills that have survived.
