Okay so when I was firing the PS90 last week this gun caught my eye. I have been digging around the web and getting a major headache. This seems to be a love it or hate it fanboy type relationship with this gun. So I am going to ask direct questions and hopefully not get to far afield. Honest and on point feedback would be welcome as I STILL have a headache from reading the 16 page post on another site that had maybe 2 pages worth of good info.

1. Ammo - This is a .223/5.56 weapon pricing seems reasonable but who makes the best quality for target type shooting.

2. Reliability - some posts I read concerned a FTF issue in the first batch. Anyone currently having an issue with the gun itself or a specific mfg of ammo.

3. Quality - rate a 1 to 5 with 5 being great.

4. Durability - If I get one it will be the LE Olive or Tan because of all the stuff that comes with it. I intend to shoot this not collect it. Has anyone been able to put a lot or rounds through these. Anything come up

5. Optics - How are the stock optics that come with it?

6. Mags - Any issues like those on some of our PS90 mags (cracking and so forth.

7. Like/Dislikes - Anything that you love or hate about the weapon?

8. Would you buy it again with what you now know.

Thanks for the input

I've been using only the super cheap remanufactured ammo and have had no problems.

4 out of five for appearance and finish- it's almost perfect. Very impressed.

4. Durability - If I get one it will be the LE Olive or Tan because of all the stuff that comes with it. I intend to shoot this not collect it. Has anyone been able to put a lot or rounds through these. Anything come up

Only a few hundred rounds so far. But I have confidence in it. It has the immortal Styer style trigger pack, and no delicate parts or thin plastic.

5. Optics - How are the stock optics that come with it?

Great, but just as useless as iron sights in the dark.- Though mine didn't come perfectly sighted in. (or maybe it did, because I had removed the optic prior to shooting it) An Eotech fits perfectly BTW.

6. Mags - Any issues like those on some of our PS90 mags (cracking and so forth.

The mags are incredible. I was selling them so I put them through some tests- amazing. Toughest mags I've ever seen!

7. Like/Dislikes - Anything that you love or hate about the weapon?

I love how it handles. I apreciate it much more now that I've shot it. When I first got it it was cool as a curiosity made in my town. But now it has this exotic aura to it, like a lambergini contache, that's how well it performs.

As for dislikes-
The barrel realease button seems stiff and sharp against your fingers.- to the point where it is hard to operate- and it sometimes doesn't want to lock the barrel back in without some fingering of the button- unlike the slick mechanism on the real AUG.
And I tend to hit my knuckles against the weapon when operating the charging handle.
-and oh yeah, mags don't drop free like they do on the real AUG.

8. Would you buy it again with what you now know.

Yep, but I got a killer deal.

And just a tip- if you have any trouble with assembly/disassembly press the bolt release- it needs to be cycled to take the trigger pack in and out.

How will the real aug be released this year?

i thought real augs were banned from importation
It doesn't matter if they are banned from importation when you set up tooling in the states

Steyr is claiming by end of 08 they will be available for both civilian (semi) and LE (select).

I agree with everything Mr Pawn said and would add....

I have several SBRs - an AK 105, a 10.5" AR, MP5k and 9mm AR with 5" bbl- and also owned a FN2K. As far as"pointability", the STG has a center of gravity closer to my shoulder so it carries and points much quicker for me than anything else I own. It has even replaced my SBR AR as my bedside go to. I am very happy with mine. I am not a brand guy, more of a function first guy and, as PP said, never had a single problem. Agree about replacing the optic too.

Good luck!
