My FAL will always be special to me, bought it when i was 16 years old "11 years ago"... Bought it from a online place, i really didn't know anything other than it was FAL and it was $400.00... Total parts kit gun, with a HESSE receiver... I had no idea what any of that meant, but it did work when I received it... Had to add the mag stop pin, so the bolt would lock back... Added a British L1A1 barrel and some other parts to make it 922lr.... This rifle has worked well for me and with pretty much any surplus ammo, I have only cleaned it once.... I read all the horror stories about HESSE receivers and such, i must have gotten lucky. There is a gap where the top receiver cover meets the barrel receiver end, don't think it's crucial "pictured location" Just figured i would share my story about one of my favorite rifles of all time and the one that i own....

I forgot to add I wouldn't shoot any steel cased ammo in it as it has been known to blow up in Fals for some reason.

Steel cased ammo = Russian guns. It's dirty stuff anyway.

What do you mean by "POOF" did they all blow up? or just no longer popular?....

Neither actually but I used to see these at shows and read about them yrs. ago, however seems I haven't seen any at shows since around 2005, does seem they are scarce, always wanted 1 but don't need any caliber to support!

I used to shoot the hell out if my SAR48 with the NORINCO steel case ammo before Slick Willie banned ChiCom guns and ammo importation.

HaHaHa! I haven't heard that one used in awhile Slick Willie. Just going by what I've heard as I've always shot brass surplus through my battle rifles. What's strange is I blew up an Hk-91 shooting brass surplus years ago. I've shot a lot of steel stuff out of AK's though with no problem.

I've shot a lot of steel case ammo made by the ChiComs and the Soviets through a lot of guns and not just AKs & SKSs.

same here in Texas.
The FALs used to be in just about every LGS and gunshows but their appearances have dried up.

I just don't see them anymore

I don't think so! Maybe if it was an Sar-48. The Sar-48's are a really nice Fal's with a cromelined barrel also. Too bad their prices have gotten so high.

You're not going to find a SAR-48 for less than 2 grands. Maybe a SAR4800 post ban but not a SAR48 preban. It's genuine IMBEL factory gun.

Definitely not the same money the nib bush rifle I got for years ago that's for sure, it's still my favorite fal.
