OK - I picked this up today. It was a tossup between a new Kimber SIS or the MC Operator from Springfield. I went with the Operator. I've been 1911-less for a while now...

I have had a few Springfields over the years - the last being a TRP. I was very disappointed with the accuracy of that TRP (which I no longer have). However - this MC Operator is spot on. I was SUPER impressed with it when I was on the range today.

The thing is super tight. The dealer told me that they got 3 in last month, and they has 2 left. 2 of the 3 were SUPER tight - as tight as the Nighthawks they have forsale - they claimed. I picked the one that was the tightest. In fact - it was difficult to pull the slide back at first - and I started to wonder if I should get the looser one.

But, I did go with the one I initially picked out. Not a mark on the gun either... And, its been a long time since I fooled with a GI guiderod setup, as most of my 1911s have always had FLGR's.

Anyway - I am very happy with my choice. In order to do it - I had to promise my wife that I'd get no more guns for the next 12 months. And, I still have to finish paying this one off with my gun allowance and upcoming Christmas present money

Hopefully, this will help me get over the "next gun obsession I always seem to be suffering from.

I always thought that if I got one of these - I'd put these version of the pachmeyer grips on it - it looks awesome:

However - I've had 1911s with Hogue grips with fingergrooves before - as well as a Beretta 92 with them once. I never got hooked onto grips with fingergrooves.

So, despite looking awesome, I'm gonna stick with the stock grips.

Nice gun indeed! But I thought I heard you say some time ago that you were not to happy with the 1911's you had in the past? So what made you change your mind and give this one a try?

Yes, I've had various issues along the way - 1/2 of the problems were because I wasn't satisfied with the stock finish or something else. This time - I got a gun that I plan to leave as is - which will minimize the chances that I choose to do something that will screw things up.

I've really liked the way this gun looks like. I was interested in them 2 years ago. But, I made the mistake of going into my store a month or so ago and seeing this model again. It's been stuck in my mind ever since...

Congrats Ship, she is definitly a looker! Especially with those finger grips. But if you don't care for the feel then don't put them on it. That slide will loosen up of course so no worries there. As long as it eats and ****'s well. :p

Wow... 12 months. Well, that's not so bad since you have some fine toys to keep you occupied... now... you mentioned buying Christmas...

Yes, I usually get $100-$150 from my wife, and $150 from my parents. It will probably be Dec before I have it all the way paid off

Honestly - while I have said so many times, at the moment - ther ereally isn't anything else I want. I kinda want to trade up my Keltec 32 to a 380 - but I suppose I can live with what I have

I am getting a bit tired of always having "the next gun" in my mind.

Yes, the finger grips look sweet in that poic - but I saw another of the same grips - and with the different lighting, it didn't look as sweet. Actually - I looked at the 1911 sites last night, and looked at all the pics of the MC OOperators. SInce the gun doesn't have checking on the front strap - all the various grips that people put on the gun didn't look as nice as the stock grips. So, I'm just leaving it "as is." Even the Nighthawk alumagrips that I prev had didn't look right on it (someone had posted a pic with them).

Nice ShipWreck! Glad you came to your senses!
1911's are the best .45's! If I had to pick one out of all the handguns I have the 1911 would win every time!

The range here will be opened soon and I can shoot that New Sig GSR 1911 I bought! I have been chomping at the bit!!!!

1 year with no new guns? We'll see how long that last's!

So...

You're custom 1911 doesn't count in that 12 months because you have to wait to get it?

I was looking at the Operator. I might just have to pick one up next summer. I was also looking at the Champion with a 4" barrel. Eh, I might just get both.
