As promised in the http://fnforum.net/forums/fn-scar-17s/54374-ideal-shtf-scar-17-a.html thread -- pics of my SCAR17S setup with the TA55A ACOG since its an optic you don't see every day.

This is the long-range 5.5x50 ACOG with BDC out to 1200M. Works with BAC (if you keep both eyes open, the red dot floats over your target for CQB work).

12" long, weighs 25.6 ounces w/ mount.

PICS GALORE:

As she sits in the Pelican case (single point sling sits across the cutout for the bipod)

Side view, no bipod

Side View with bipod and sling attached

Closeup, side view

Business-end

TA55A up close

Reticle view - ranges out to 1200M!

Width of the chevron is 5.53MOA or 19 inches (chest width) at 300M.

I'm a big fan of the TA55A. It has fantastic eye relief, the glass is super clear and super bright, and its dead simple to use.

The BAC works really well, in combination with the great eye relief, its actually very usable as a CQB gun.

The downside is obviously the length and the weight. Well and the cost.

The length doesn't really matter with the SCAR17, still plenty of rail space, but I can see where it would be an issue with a AR15 with a shorter rail length.

In short, I think its a great optic option for the 17 and the FNAR (I used it with both platforms).

I love the BDC out to 1200m. For a real SHTF scenario per the earlier thread, I think its tough to beat. I feel very comfortable I'd be able to put fire on a target out past 500-600m which I don't feel like I'd be able to do with any other flexible optic setup that most people use on the SCAR (no other ACOG, Elcan, etc).

I cut the foam myself.

There are a bunch of how-to articles and videos out there.

I am a fan of: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/292695_.html&page=1

Some was hot wire, one later cut-in was just a serrated knife (wasn't worth setting up the wire to add the one cut-in).

There are a lot of sources for making your own hot wire, this is a good one:

A great source for foam is:
