OK, I sold my ACOG TA11J-308G, and purchased the new Nightforce 3-10X42. I also bought a ADM Recon scope mount. I wanted something with sight settings I could log and repeat and reach out to some nice distance the ACOG just wasn't cutting it. I also bought some of that Federal XM80CL at 13.99 a box thinking it would be just some ammo to throw down range but I was wrong!! I dialed it in at 100yds and then shot 2 groups, one with hand loaded 168 smk w/ Lapua brass and one with this Federal XM80. To my surprise the XM80 dialed a 1.04" group beating my 168's!!! Next, I took it to a 1000 yard rifle range in Ohio called Rayners Range. The XM80 has a BC of .408 so I ran off a ballistics chart to help with my settings. Believe it or not, the XM80 shot EXCELLENT hitting steel consistently out to 900 yards, it fell off pretty hard between 900 and 1000 (subsonic according to my chart as well). I broke out my 168's loaded with 41.5 gr. of IMR 4895 for my 1000 yard shots from that point. The 168's hit the ground about 15' lower that the XM80's but was able to dial them in to hit the 1000yd steel plate on a fairly consistent basis, maybe 1 outta every 3-4 shots with a spotter. Anyway, for those of you debating on a new scope and some cheap ammo that shoots excellent, there you go!!! Have a good day!! ZIP

Good to know about the Ammo. I just picked up 300 rounds at Cabelas. Tomorrow going to range, will be bringing some of this and some HSM 168 grain BTHP.

Love the Federal XM80CL. It's hard to beat for the money.

I just bought 500 rounds for $13.53 per box delivered. Sounds like a great choice. Thanks OP
