Hi there guys new here. I plan to buy a 5-7 in the near future, hopefully within 2 months and was wondering if you could help me out with a few questions before I purchase it. Couldn't find the right answers after googling a few months. How many rounds can this gun go through its service life? How is the reliability of this gun as far as dropping it and would it discharge/still function? How is the polymer compared to Glock and HK? I had a Sig Pro (might be a lemon) but the polymer on the frame easily scratches, even with my fingernails. I live in CA and the only rounds I can find are the American Eagle 40 grain and SS197SR rounds. Which one is better for home defense as far as stopping the threat most effectively? I already have a Glock 20 and Kimber 1911, so just wondering about this 5-7. Thanks guys.

Service life may be best answered by JHS...? He seems to know alot about that.
I would use the SS197 for home defense especially when protecting my family & self.
However " Buffman " has some interesting video's on some round penetration with the AE.... in level 2 & 3 body armour ( I believe )
I only have a Glock but to me FN polymers are pretty robust but... not much to go by. They used to have slide covers for sale ( I have 1 ) but have never had the need to replace any of my 3.
Hope that is some small help.
It is a straight shooting weapon and flat shooting round for what it is... doesn't have over penetration worries and was designed for close range.
I have yet to see someone shoot out a barrel... not that it can't be done , I just don't remember hearing much about it.

Cool, thanks for the quick replies. So even though the ss197sr is a "sporting round" it hits like a hollow point and tumbles, and the AE is more like punching through and creating two holes?
