Maybe swapping optics isn’t always “new thread worthy”, but the FS2000 forum has been too quiet lately! I picked up a new AR15 SBR last week and the Trijicon RMR I'd been using for the last little while was just a perfect fit for it leaving my FS2000 optic-less.

I liked the RMR a lot, but they’re not the cheapest sight around, with a sight plus mount going for more the $700 around here. I’d heard good things about Aimpoint’s new-ish PRO (Patrol Rifle Optic) and I liked the CompM4S that I used on one of my earlier FS2000s. Many of you will already have some familiarity with the sight, but if you don’t, read on!

The PRO is a lower-cost sight—I got this one for $400, including base and flip-up caps. It uses the “sorta quick release” QRP mount, which I’d used before for my CompM4S. It also comes with a spacer for use on rifles that need it—like AR15s or Tavors. With the spacer removed it’s the perfect height for me, and it sits nice and low on the rail, too. The knob is reversible—I reversed it so it wouldn’t interfere with the cocking handle. Aimpoint’s website lists the sight at 11.6 oz with the spacer, but in the hand it feels lighter than that. It’s smaller than I was expecting too.

Here it is without the spacer:

and with:

You can see the battery compartment at the 1 o’clock position—it uses a 3V Litihum battery. I’d prefer the AAs that the CompM4S uses, but with the battery life rated at 30,000 hours I don’t think I’ll be replacing it very often. There’s a rubber strap affair affixed to the battery cover plus adjustment caps to prevent their loss.

The front sight is visible below the dot—as it was with the RMR, but it’s not too distracting. The sight picture is a little busier than with the RMR’s wide-open view for sure, but I with the initial few sightings I haven’t found it as bad as I was thinking it could be. I've got kind of an "Eye of Sauron" thing going on here I see.

(I had the upper off the rifle for this picture :) )

It’s got a 2 MOA dot, and sure enough, it exhibits the same issue as my earlier Aimpoints—the slight astigmatism in my aiming eye makes the dot look a little misshapen. It’s usable for sure, but I found that both the full-size and small Trijicon reflex sights have better-defined dots for me.

Here it is on the rifle.

I’m hoping to get it out to the range next week—I’ll let you know how it works out.

The PRO is one of the best RDS for the money out there.

If I didn't already have a SRS on the 2k I'd have the PRO in a heartbeat. Thanks for the review!!!

Very cool. I have a Micro T1 waiting to put on F2K. Just waiting for my Larue mount to arrive. Thanks for reviving the F2K forum!

Funny you say that, I have not visited the site for some time! I happen to take her out to appreciate the cool factor of the FS and visit the forum to see what's new .....When the threads are quiet does that mean that the FS is working just fine and we cannot complain about it !

By the way nice optics!.....Enrico
