Morning all,

New guy here. Recently acquired a 17S and have really delved into the platform and where it could be improved.
Found this news this morning, interesting... Kinetic Development Group Launches...Now - Soldier Systems Daily
Not sure if I like the rail, but its great to have a group that will be focusing on the platform. They have there work cut out for them with folks like Stryker already deep in the game.

Cheers,
Dan

I just found this thread as I was about to post...

$299... I like the looks of it. I think I will wait for a few reviews, but they have my attention!

Interesting. This system only adds 2.5 oz to your scar.
Tiny pics without any decent resolution? If my stuff was worth looking at there would be tons of huge high resolution pics form every angle showing it off.

Tiny pics are usually meant to hide flaws

Except nobody has one to look at it, so that's quite the conclusion you've jumped to. Pics are big enough for me to see just fine. Someone will get one, then we can all get a better glimpse. Not every company has to release a catalog showing every tiny detail, and most don't.

Edit: 4228x3280 is the resolution. Look at the link below.

Did you see these?

Extended Handguards, Fore-ends and Rails...

Follow this thread as well for a similar discussion, looking for input from anyone with experience in these products.

Thanks for the videos BTW had not seen those yet. :icon_thumbup:
Best looking extended rail I've seen yet. I wonder if any are available to ship. I don't have any desire to create a thread 6 months from now complaining about not having received the product.

I think those vids were just added today or yesterday on Youtube... Based on their write up they are a fairly new company. The page looks like they are ready for orders (I would call first), but I'm waiting for a few reviews. Based on what I've seen though this is near the top of my want list... I need a little more rail space on my 17.

This seems to have come entirely out of left field and I am completely taken aback by this announcement! Outstanding web presence, highly detailed wealth of product photography, unique and innovative designs, and items ready to ship on day one... KDG would certainly appear to have their collective sh*t together. The fact this new company draws experience from LWRC lends confidence, and their new products would appear to simply speak for themselves.

I am particularly pleased with the new hand guard/extended rail design. I've long felt the existing profile of the bottom rail section is completely unnecessary when utilizing a KeyMod or M-Lok style attachment system; The shape (on rails like MI) only being consistent with the factory picattiny 6 o'clock rail in order to interface with the trunnion/yoke screw attachment point.

The MREX utilizes the same attachment, but then drops it's contours to closely hug the upper receiver providing a much thinner profile than any competing design I've seen thus far. Perfect for using some of the more modern shooting styles.

I'd also like to praise their decision to completely replace the front sling attachment loops with QD mounts rather than simply bolting additional pieces to them. I believe that part will become much more utilized with future rail designs similar to what Handl has demonstrated with their new carbon fiber extensions.

So far I'm loving what I see and can't wait to learn what's coming next. It's great to have more companies on board willing to innovate for the SCAR platform!

I agree, this is a shot across the bow to everyone making scar stuff. The more the better.

Interesting. Certainly looks good and provides an elegant solution in regards to the side rails. It'd be nice if they stuck with T25 all around to retain parity with the host receiver. 3.2oz is nice and light though, I must say.

Looks like I spoke too soon, they have a shorter and lighter version (apparently meant to mate - at least aesthetically - with the shorter SCAR barrels). Would prefer KeyMod to keep things similar to my other rifles.

They didn't have the clickable high resolution pics when I posted that but for $299 they are still an "Also Ran".

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion... But the Midwest is 199-220, the PWS is 190-250, the VLTOR is around 250, the Handl is 450-480. There are other options but I don't think the pricing is obscene. New company, new product... The price may come down over time. I'm looking at getting a black one for my 17, pending reviews... but I might get impatient and test the waters. The only thing that I took note of was that the black model is anodized and the FDE is cerakoted... I would prefer anodized FDE if I were installing one on one of my FDE guns. At the same time they used Magpul FDE creakote so you can easily touch it up if that's your thing when you get scratches. Good luck trying to touch up a FDE anodized Scar... absent a complete spray job.

I think that this is a great thing to have another company come forward with additional parts to bring the scar into the realm of accessories that the other platforms have had for years. The more companies that jump on to this weapons system, the more it will become popular.
Good to see new parts, agreed.

That rail though, does if I followed the vid, correctly--loose the quick-change barrel feature of the SCAR-if one applies the loctite to the cross-piece rail like the lady does at the end of the video. I guess it all depends on whether or not that's important to a user to maintain those principal design features.

This rail honestly captured my attention and I wanted to buy it until I saw that: 1. It loses the captive screw feature up front and 2. it adds two new non captive screws in the middle of the rail.
