Local gun owner classified has a used 5 seven for sale and mentions that the newer models were changed to sell cheaper?? Any comments here on a change from the original design? Better? Worse? Older units more desirable?

They weren't changed to sell cheaper, they were made to be more sturdy. Also more reliable with 'civilian' ammo on sale to the public. More robust rear adjustable sight, cast one-piece slide instead of stamped and welded, front cocking serrations, more plastic near the rail and trigger guard so it is less likely to crack, and the front of the slide/frame is wider by several tenths of an inch, so it won't fit the blackhawk serpa holster and others like it.

Considering the price has continued to go up year after year I don't buy the cheaper part.

The new MKII is an answer to a question that was never asked. It's updates to a design that did not need any.

As for older being more desirable, the first three models are collector items now and have been for a long time. The first two models can and do sell for thousands in mint condition.

Some welcome the barrel/locking mech change that helped prevent cracking. The slide itself is lighter on the MKII than the MKI, but the frame is heavier on the MKII, hence why they weigh the same in the end. I'm not fond of the new slide cover design or sights, but it's not that big of deal.

How many of the previous models had the issue that the MkII supposedly fixes?
What is it supposed to have fixed?

So is $1250 high end for USG with 50 rounds through it, box and all FN stuff?

Just because he wouldn't pay that for it doesn't mean it's not a good deal or that the pistol is not worth that. Supply and demand has a lot to do with pricing and if they are hard to find then one has to shell out a little more dough to acquire one. Is it possible to find one cheaper? Sure but it's not going to be ridiculously cheaper at least not now and I don't see one bring picked up right now for less than $1100 regardless of condition.

True.

But since you can buy a new one for less than that, why would you buy a used one?
