I went with the new NF 4-16X42 ATACR with H59 Reticle. I took it to the range and compared to my other long range scopes I am happy with the turrets and the overall size and weight of the scope. The new glass is okay, if you are into super clear glass this is fine, but no, it is not as nice as the S&B glass.

I am taking the rifle to a private range this weekend and we will be hunting hogs as well as shooting steel gongs on the 2nd day.

I will post an update by Monday hopefully with better photos and more details.

For build quality and overall value I am quite happy with the scope and it does math well with a semi auto gun.

**** out

Man im jealous. I have a few sub 500$ optics i use. Still cant decide what magnification range i want to end up with when i drop a lot of money on an optic. I like the idea of the 2.5-10s, but also would utilize a 3-15 if i had it. I also like the idea of something like the burris 1.5-8 as well. All i know is that is one nice optic on one nice suppressed fde 17. I hate california

dtrump, someone had mentioned a company called March Tactical and they make a 1-10x24. The objective lens is a little small, but thats a pretty incredible spread. It's also a little pricey at the mid 2g range.

The 17 would probably shoot the March apart. You are also looking at $3+ for illumination. Its a pretty lightly built optic, and if you do have warranty issues.... have fun dealing with a low production/low availability foreign made optic. IMO the 17 is a DMR rifle. 5.56 is an optimal 600yard and in platform. You are just wasting money and making extra noise slinging .308 at close range, along with the weight/recoil penalty. So throwing a LPV or a RDS on a 17 is kind of pointless, unless you like to make lots of noise and waste money. I would look hard at optics in the 2/3-12/18 range. Lots of good ones out there that are lightish (keeping the advantage of the SCAR), reliable/durrable and have quality features. Bushnell LHRS, NF F1 4-16, MK6 3-18, S&B 3-12 or 4-16. The new Razor g2 3-18 is nice as well, but its a pig. The new steiner 3-15 has great features but is having growing pains. With enough practice, you can shoot many of these that have well designed reticles (Bushnell G2H) on 3X with both eyes like an ACOG at close range if needed, while still being able to dial up and use the reticle for holdovers.

I like mine. Great glass. Very light and clear view.
