I am in the market for a PS90. My local shop is getting a deal on the early PS90's. But the gun comes with the collimator site, black reticle (they can't get them with the tri-rail). Here comes the noob question...How hard is it to remove the site and install the tri-rail if I want to go to other sighting options?

Secondly I have heard both sides regarding the ballsitics of the round. Some people hail it, others call it a expensive 22 mag. Can someone honestly tell me how they feel about the round. Reason I ask is that money is tight, I love the gun, but have to sell a M4 in order to get the PS90. I want to be sure the round will suffice as a defensive round.

Thanks,

:) Welcome. If you are going to get the black reticle sight then I would suggest you keep it. It is much better then the white reticle sight.
The PS90 is a perfect PDW and I love it up to 100 yrds. Easy to handle and aim and clean. If you are planning to hit something out to 300 to 500 yrds I'd keep the M4 or go with an M1A1.
I love my PS90 for self defense and CQC. :?

M1P90,

Thanks for the reply. I would mostly like it for having fun and keeping the family safe. Keeping the distance short is not a problem. I have a Rem 799 LTR in 308 for the long shots.

Esteves, Thanks for the reply.

One other quesiton. You say the black reticle is the USSS, which reticle is the USG??? The white one? How many different factory sites are there?

Thanks,

What kind of "deal" are they getting for you? You can get tri rails on gunbroker for 1300.00. Online sales are probably the best deals. Your dealer can do the transfer for a small fee. No sales tax if the seller is out of your state. Save money and buy more ammo. You will need it...

The MagazineParts aftermarket optics rail sits about 1/4" higher than the TR's rail and as mentioned earlier is very easy to install (2 screws, that's it). However, if you're getting the USG/USSS black reticle ringsight I suggest you give it a try first and if you don't like it then go w/an optics rail & optic of your choice.
One of the main reasons I have the PS90 is for HD as it's light, short, manueverable, easy to shoot one handed or from prone, fully ambidextrous, has mild muzzle blast & no muzzle flash & the 50rd mag should suffice for most intruders.
While I would prefer a more powerful round I feel it's powerful enough for my purposes (and no man-portable round is a 100% guaranteed manstopper) plus it has the benefit of reduced risk of overpentration.
HTH, keep us posted!...

PS- I've experimented w/a number of optics on the PS90 and ended up going back to the Eotech. Not only do I find the circle/dot reticle faster on target (YMMV) but the bottom of the reticle circle is the perfect aiming point for close-in shots due to sight height over bore.

Thanks for all the info. You have difinitely helped answer some needed questions for me.

The deal I am getting is $1600 with the USG or USSS sight. But there is one other reason I am getting it. Due to site policy I cannot mention here, but I can say that I feel this particular gun will have a higher collectibility than the other PS90's.

Forgot to mention about the sight.

I am used to a Bushnell Holosight on my M4, so seeing what the USSS sight looks like leaves me feeling lacking in the FOV department. Only prob is my local shop cannot get the TR model for this "deal" they are doing.
Is there any easy way to change the sighted model for the TR???

Either find someone w/a TR who's willing to do a swap or sell the USSS sight (they're running about $400 right now) and use the proceeds to help finance an optics rail & Eotech or other optic. I see Eotech 512's going for about $340 shipped, sometimes lower if you know where to look. BTW, I agree w/you about the perceived FOV of the USSS & original factory ringsights.

Tomac,
Yeah that FOV almost makes me feel like I have to shut one eye.
What did you think about the price???

That's not bad for one w/the USSS sight, the TR can be had for a bit less ($1,299 at Tanner's) but not enough to offset the sale value of the USSS sight at that price.

The price sounds great! You get the PS90 with the USSS sight.
go for it.

RE: the FOV. I personally don't have any trouble with the size. I mainly keep both eyes open. I focus on the target then move the rifle up and onto my line of sight. I have the white reticle sight but have added my new illuminator. It works great
For the amount of money you are going to shell out make sure you get the one you feel the most comfortable with. Like Tomac, most people like the EOtech.

Good luck
