NX8 1-8 for SCAR17

Looking for some feedback from anyone that has run a NX8 1-8 on a SCAR17. Not sure if the narrow eyebox is over exaggerated.

I‘ve run a Vortex Razor 1-10, Trijicon V-COG, and currently own a Razor 1-6.

DMR/Battle rifle with the ability to engage steel out to 600-700 yards is the primary goal.

Thinking about going with a Badger Condition One 30mm mount in 1.70“ height.

Unfortunately, NF only offers their Ultramount in 1.54” or 1.93” heights.

What didn't you like about the Vortex 1-10? It seems like a great choice on paper. The NX8 is certainly lighter but it comes at the expense of the eyebox as you mentioned. It's not great but I don't think it's a deal breaker either.

As I mentioned in the FB group thread, I will probably try out the Primary Arms PLX-C 1-8 for the wider FOV while staying in the same weight range as the NX8.

My example fish eyed terribly from 1-3X (diopter adjusted properly). The eye box on 10x while it is fairly forgiving was not as forgiving as some of the 1-6/8x LPVOs I have used. The 8-10x was kinda hazy in my opinion but other than that it's a pretty impressive scope. The recent HUGE price increase by Vortex has definitely soured my opinion of it.

The PA PLX-C 1-8 looks promising just not a fan of the reticle choice.

I was watching this review if the Trijicon 1-8x. The glass quality and MIL reticle seem like a perfect fit for my 17S SBR, just wish it wasn’t so chunky at 25oz.

After reading I’ve decided not to risk the NX8 however, the ATACR isn’t in my budget. Im currently thinking about trying another Razor 1-10 and adding a RDS at the 12 o’clock If I feel i need it 🤦‍♂️
Razor or ATACR is best choice for SCAR17S.

I use the Razor.

Demo'ed the ATACR in a store and didn't like how much the outer ring of the scope's body occluded my overall view vs. the Razor. The ATACR felt much more like I was forced into tunnel vision.

I too am interested in trying an NX8. I find the eyebox on the vortex to be very tight at 8-10x. I'm able to use it, but I cannot see impacts at the top end of the magnification. I really like the reticle, though. 1x is okay. My particular sample is not a true 1x, and when I run both eyes open it feels off. I've adjusted the diopter but can't get it to look right. These are all workable, but it's also heavy.
After reading enough negatives on the NX8 I ended up getting a good deal on a Razor 1-10 (MRAD) and have decided to give it another chance. Currently mounted in a Reptilia AUS w/ a RMR09 (1 MOA) piggybacked in a Reptilia ROF 90.

Nice. I'm curious, I see a lot of people running piggy back optics on their 1x scopes. Do you plan to use the 1x on your vortex?

Most of my shooting involves the mid/upper end of the magnification range. Low end magnification for closer engagements and/or light assaulter stuff. Red dot for fast engagements when it’s faster to transition vs power down. Red dot to assist in transitioning from longer range targets vs trying to power down to find the target then power back up to engage.Passive aiming option under NVG’s.
As you can tell from my earlier posts I had the same dilemma on the ideal scope for my 17S SBR. I also did not like the tight eyebox on the NX8 for use on the 17S which moves around quite a bit more under recoil. Although the NX8 seems fine on a 16S.

I just received the Kahles K18i 1-8x w/ 3GR reticle from Eurooptic and so far I'm very pleased. On 1x it has a huge field of view, a very thin outer bezel ring like the Razor, and the image looks flat with minimal fisheye. The eyebox is more forgiving than the NX8 at all power ranges, weight is only 19oz, and the overall fit and finish is very nice.

The 3GR reticle is not as good as the FC-DMx on the NX8. But the center dot is definitely daytime bright and it has adequate elevation and wind holds for out to 640 yards with my current data from the 13" barrel.

Up on 8x the glass is very clear and crisp. The eyebox does get a little tighter like all LVPO's with this zoom multiple but it's still much more forgiving than the NX8. I compared it side by side with the following scopes on a wooded tree line at 350 yards:
Nightforce NX8 1-8x
Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42
Trijicon Credo 1-6x
The K18i clearly has the highest glass quality of the group which makes it feel more like a 10x scope than an 8x. For example you could see greater detail on things like tree bark texture. I don't feel shortchanged by not having a 10x top end at all.

It comes with 2 sizes of power throw levers and the magnification ring moves very smoothly. I haven't taken it to the range yet but so far seems like it's a winner. Not the greatest picture but you get the idea:
