Hi Folks: Used to shoot 1911A1, got married with instant family, disposed of arms. Kids out, and want to shoot again. Wife's handled 45, but seems a little much or her. Need something ambidextrous, and looks like an FNX 40 might suit our needs. I figured this could e a god place to pick up some useful info. TY

Welcome to the forum from The Kave.... !

If my better half ..... aka " The Colonel ".... had ever handled comfortably a 45 .... I would have been shot a long time ago !!!!!

Food for thought : with a twist of humor added in !!!!!
For the record... " I " in no way, shape, or form are suggesting what your wife should or shouldn't enjoy. I'm just suggesting the possibility of a long term plan, ( bare with me here ).... I would think that something smaller like a .380, may be more convenient ? .... something that she could tuck away in her " away bag " and even.... " show off or revel " her new appendage with some of her lady friends ? The concept is to be able to grow her interest in the hobby !!!! to the point that she ends up whole-heartedly supporting ANY weapon or ammunition procurements .... in the future !:x

That way down the road, you could implement the 2 for me .... 1 for you program ! Of course that is all contingent on being able to develop her into an avid enthusiast .... ! A partner that openly welcomes new additions to collection and owns multiple side arms. ( You would be surprised at what my wife owns .... LOL )

Just an idea, I carry a Sig 40 Equinox and it can be cumbersome at times.

Again welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

My personal tidbit of wisdom would be to steer her toward a 9mm. .40 S&W is a bit snappy, way more snappy than the venerable 1911, way more. Unless she's an experienced shooter it doesn't make much sense to scare someone right out of the starting gate. Of course this is solely my opinion and may not be that of you, her or others. I would however strongly suggest you let HER decide which caliber/platform is best for HER! Take her to hold and shoot many combinations. Sometimes our testosterone gets in the way of better judgement, I mean sure who wouldn't want the wife/GF to shoot a 17s like a DevGru/CAG Operator? Reality dictates we let them make the choice with our "objective" guidance. Nothing worse than pushing and prodding for "that" gun when we end up paying for it then it only sits collecting dust.... YMMV

Welcome to the forum! We have FNS in 9 & 40 as well as Glocks and Sigs. My wife, like everyone else that's tried one, found the FNS9 to be a natural fit and very accurate. The striker system and ergonomics make it an easy shooter.
Congrats on having a better half that wants to shoot with you!
