I'm planning to make a purchase soon but can't decide which one of these, STG 556 or SIG 556, to get. I want it to be practical yet somewhat exotic (I already have an AR), but most importantly one should be able to mount an adequate defense with it if need be. Having a really hard time making a choice.
All relevant comments and opinions welcome.

Sig 556 SWAT Rifle
http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=35&productid=211
Pros: Looks good, practical defensive weapons platform.
Cons: Price

or

MSAR STG-556 Rifle
http://www.impactguns.com/store/STG-556.html
Pros: Have always liked the Styer AUG, Optional 6.8 SPC
Cons: Price, prob won't like the trigger

TDP AXR Rifle
http://www.tpdusa.com/proddetail.php?prod=AXRRifle
Pros: Have always liked the Styer AUG, uses AR mags
Cons: Price, prob won't like the trigger

I sure hope you guys can help because I'm also having problems choosing between the next one on my list too. If I could get one of each I wouldn't have this problem. :D

AR-10 clone:
RRA LAR-8 Standard A2/A4
http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=256
Pros: Looks like an AR, uses L1A1 mags, lots of stuff made I can hang off it.
Cons: Looks like an AR.

or

Springfield M1A Scout Squad
http://www.impactguns.com/store/706397041267.html
Pros: Looks like an M14
Cons: Price, not as easy to hang stuff on it without the heavy forarm rail system.

Thanks,

I personally found the 556 SWAT to be more comfortable than the MSAR Aug clone though both were comfortable guns. The fit and finish on the MSAR I saw was not what I would expect out of a $2K+ gun.

I would go with the 556 SWAT and use the cost saving to get some accessories.

I actually have no problem with the STG-556 trigger. It's much better than the PS90.
Factory accessories and mags are still hard to come by at this point for the STG.
I would pick the STG over the SIG just because the AUG clone is a bullpup and probably the most naturally pointing rifle ever.

STG vs AXR- I can't say.

As far as the battle rifle goes the AR types are much easier to work on and your best bet if you're pursuing extreme accuracy or maximum versatility. But of course there is something to be said for the heft, history, and profile of the M1!!

Hard choices! I'm not buying anymore autoloaders for awhile. I'm saving up for some high-end electro-optics.

Whoops, it's not on your list. Oh well, it's still, hands down, the best option compared to what you posted.

On a side note, do you already have the FS2000? Or just save up for the SCAR when that comes out.

MSAR STG556.
Closest to original and will retain value better. :?

Tony
"close" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades :? .

If you are willing to pay the $2000 for the KNOCK OFF, pony up a another grand and buy the REAL Aug. The MSAR, after all of the fixes (hell, it's expected with a new gun, but it just goes to show that this gun is NOT a direct copy of the Steyr Aug) might be a decent gun, but it's still not the real thing. For instance, something as simple as the factory optic models; with the REAL Aug, you get perfect alignment when bringing it to level, with the MSAR, the optic sits too low. Also, not many clones (especially when it's NOT a direct clone) retain value that well.

It's simple things like these that just don't cut it IMO.

Great feed back guys. Lots of food for thought here.
Promoted, that's nice to hear about the STG's trigger.
Will take a look at the SCAR and XCR.
I wish I could hold one of each. It's hard to know how it feels to shoulder a weapon or pull it's trigger over the internet.

Thank you all for your input.
Still debating,,,,,
