Alright. New guy here. I am trying to drum-up support for a lightweight, aluminum round similar to the Civil Defense lineup offered by Liberty (Liberty Ammunition Lead Free Ammo | Liberty Ammunition) in 9MM, .40, .45ACP and 10MM but for the 5.7X28.

Something in the 20-30 grain range which I'd postulate at ~2,500 FPS. I think this is what the Five-SeveN pistol really needs to realize its potential as a defensive handgun.

I have contacted Liberty Ammunition as to the possibility and I think that they may be open to the idea of working up a 5.7 line of products if enough interest is generated.

So, that's what I'm looking to do here. I want to demonstrate to Liberty that there is, indeed, tremendous market potential in a balls-to-the-wall 5.7 load. If this concept is something that you'd be interested in, share your interest in the form of a comment below. If not, please chime in as to why this is a non-starter in your opinion. For my own part, this is a product I would purchase. Having used Liberty's 9MM and .45ACP offerings, I am very excited about the idea of a zippy little aluminum 5.7 round. What say you, internet?

Already rounds like that on the market.

I can't locate any 'civilian' ammo at above ~2,000FPS from the Five-SeveN. Unless you consider the Gunbroker.com auctions for $100 boxes of 25 of the SM4 EA ammo an option... which I do not... $4 a round is a price I will never pay.

I like the idea of having choice for the 5.7 round. Not much in the way of supply out there.

Only issue is them getting brass to load.

The 5.7 round has a coating on it to help with extracting from the chamber on the blow back action.

Once that coating is worn off, the case doesn't work so well in extracting.

SO, if they can solve that issue, all the power to them in loading up ammo.

Can you link me to any, please? I can't locate them. FN's SS195 is advertised at ~2,100 FPS out of the pistol. Actual results seem to be a bit lower.
The 198 is faster than the 195.

Seems 5.7 ammo and guns that shoot it continuously decline in desire, but there is a very small Niche market, Liberty ammo in a pistol will outperform all 5.7 ammo except the SS 190 and only in penetration, so there is no need for it!

If the EA SM4 stuff were actually available at non-vulture prices, I guess 2,500 FPS wouldn't be so elusive out of the pistol. Oh well. I'm going to leave this up and see if that interest I thought might exist ever comes to fruition.

The pistol will only handle so much pressure. But your pistol use what you want in it.

I actually snagged a box (25 rounds) of Elite S4M, it was delivered yesterday. You have to drop in on their web site several times a day. When they post it, it goes FAST!

Availability of Elite ammo should be improving towards the end of the year, they invested a TON of money in a machine to manufacture their own 5.7X28 brass.

To my knowledge, that will make them and FN the ONLY manufacturers of 5.7X28 brass on the planet.

Ummmmm, nooooo....

The coating is not on there to assist with "extraction" or it would be used on all types of ammunition, the coating exists on the rounds since they spin into and out of the ps90 magazine...

As for other ammo manufacturers I welcome it, would love to buy some subsonics I would be willing to use
