As Pursuit said, stalk their website and you can accumulate it over time with no problem. Shooting it however presents a few challenges as already mentioned including voiding your warranty; similar situation if Liberty manufactured-reloads void your warranty. It's a dynamic caliber for certain. What exactly are you hopeful to do with this round that SS198 can't do performance wise, even at a slower velocity?

If the EA SM4 stuff were actually available at non-vulture prices, I guess 2,500 FPS wouldn't be so elusive out of the pistol. Oh well. I'm going to leave this up and see if that interest I thought might exist ever comes to fruition.

As to voiding the warranty, under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, I would think that might be difficult for them to call ammo from Elite "reloaded" or "re manufactured" because the accepted industry definition of those terms is using fired brass. Elite tears down NEW FN ammo (Fiocchi) and uses the new brass. It's going to be even more "interesting" when Elite begins using their own brass.

Ummmmm, nooooo....

The coating is not on there to assist with "extraction" or it would be used on all types of ammunition, the coating exists on the rounds since they spin into and out of the ps90 magazine...

As for other ammo manufacturers I welcome it, would love to buy some subsonics I would be willing to use
Supposedly it does help aide in extraction, and proper function even in the FSN.

You'll be hard pressed to get 2500 fps in the FSN. If you go too light then the gun may not cycle.

The biggest challenger for Liberty or any manufacturer; Virgin 5.7x28mm brass. There are already copper loads in the 34-40gr that mimic what the Civil Defense stuff does.

Elite Ammunition's SM4 seems to be pulling 2,400-ish FPS here. If an all aluminum projectile were used, that could be matched and possibly exceeded. I'm surprised you guys have been able to buy from EA. I've checked their site a couple dozen times and I've NEVER seen anything in stock.

Anyhow, as to what I am trying to accomplish that 'sporting' ammo cannot, I'm not sure that there's a concise answer to that question. Mostly, I do not care for the way FN ammo seems to be neutered. Within the bounds of what is safe, I think that 5.7 shooters ought to be able to maximize the potential of their weapons and ammo. My *feeling* is that the 5.7X28 is capable of a whole lot more than the 1650FPS we're getting out of the American Eagle stuff, and more even than the FN stuff which tops out at 2,100 for the SS195/198.

I view the Five-SeveN as a formidable defensive side arm. That capability can only be exceeded by better ammo. Put simply, speed is what I want, and more of it. Speed eats barriers. Speed flies flat and retains energy to greater distance. Speed rocks!

Specifically, the S4M stuff. I'm not really interested in loads that sport fundamentally unimproved velocity over what FN is cranking out at nearly $2 per round. Or is the S4M dead? I've NEVER seen it in stock. Ever.

As I pointed out in Post #18 of this thread, I just received 25 rounds of S4M from Elite.

The reason you never see it in stock is it sells out almost immediately when posted on their web site. I check their web site several times a day. I'm only interested in the S4M and the T6B.

I like the idea of having choice for the 5.7 round. Not much in the way of supply out there.

Only issue is them getting brass to load.

The 5.7 round has a coating on it to help with extracting from the chamber on the blow back action.

Once that coating is worn off, the case doesn't work so well in extracting.

SO, if they can solve that issue, all the power to them in loading up ammo.

I can agree that the coating would aid extraction, but was that the sole purpose of the coating? I could have sworn it was for the ps90
I would agree that it's original intended sole purpose was to prevent galling in the ps90 magazines :D

And there were other post as well.

I can't seem to find anything info stating that the coating is there for the rotation of the round in the magazine, or galling in the magazine.

Maybe jhs could chime in, and let us know where he received his info from. I believe he got it from Bob, at FNH USA.

You can read this thread... http://fnforum.net/forums/5-7x28mm-ammunition/12719-case-life.html

Post number 3 is where you saw it. Notice "I believe..."

I believe the coating is meant more for smooth movement through the magazine since it must spin, while as a side it also preserves lifetime of the brass.

But the primary purpose is because of the way the ammo is fed through the magazine.
I don't disagree with the idea that the coating MAY help in this respect. But it was not the reason for the coating.
