I'm about to send my barrel off to hi-desert dog, but I have one more question. Does his 1/2x28 adapter option require the barrel to be cut differently from when he cuts the barrels with P90 threads? Or does that adapter screw onto P90 threads?
How does CMMG's P90 thread to 1/2x28 adapter compare to hi-desert dog's in terms of sticking out the furthest?
I'm now debating getting a suppressor in the future, and I don't want to get the barrel cut a certain way that is going to limit my options in the future. I'm looking for the best option that allow the shortest flash hider length and shortest suppressor length. (...by length I mean barrel profile/adapter length, not the length of the hider/suppressor itself)
Thanks, Mike
I am pretty sure that he will thread your barrel how you want. I suggest that you keep the original threading type on the barrel so that you can change to the P90 FH if you like in the future from whatever you choose today.
As far as sticking out, my adaptor only adds about 1/4" overall to the length of my SBR vs the P90 with its FH. I can not comment on the length of the CMMG one as I do not have one. Perhaps someone who does have one can answer your question. I suspect that they are around the same length though.
Decide IF you want a supressor. Once that decision is made, the rest will fall into place.
No supressor = P90 falsh hider, or other flash hider that you wish to place on the SBR. This can be a FH that is already set up to add a supressor later on IF you know what attachement the supressor will use. Your work is done for the time being.
Supressor = Lots and lots to think about: Supressor type, cost (around $600 to $900) for the setup, functionability, paperwork on both the federal and local level, federal tax of $200, cross use of supressor on other firearms, weight, length, type of attachment for supressor that can be used on both firearms, etc. etc, etc... It all comes down to what type of supressor you want and the mounting. Screw on, quick attachment - there are dozens of supressor companies out there that use their proprietary attachments.
If you want to have a PS90 SBR that in the 'future' can be upgraded to add a supressor, stay with the P90 FH and swap it out later with the proper adaptor when you decide to go with the supressor. The cost of a new FH adaptor for the SBR is minimal, ~$65.00 - $100.
