I have a rare, factory SFS in .40. It comes in factory blue. Other versions had a factory black poly finish that is more durable.

If I refinish my blued version to the black poly finish (This is my CCW piece), will that hurt the collectors value of the pistol?

refinishing almost any "collectible" firearm will greatly diminish its value. As will subjecting it to the wear it would receive as a ccw piece. IMO you should reconsider both of those choices. (provided that the pistol in question is actually collectible) I may be mistaken but I believe the pistol you referenced is still I production so I would question how "rare" it is

FN stopped importing the SFS Hi Powers around 2003. The last 40S&W Hi Powers were made around 2007 or so.
As much as I love the 40S&W SFS Hi Powers, to call them rare would be a stretch. They are out there, but you'll need to be ready with funds in hand because they go fast when they do pop up.

As for refinishing, do what you want to make the pistol right for you. Don't worry about the next owner.
Don't ditch the blued one though. The thing to do is to go on the webs and get an epoxy SFS HP 40 to supplement the blued one.
The other way would be to get an epoxy HP 40 and have it converted with a SFS kit from Cylinder and Slide. Then you'll have both a blued and epoxied HP 40!

As for aftermarket finishes, I'm particular to hard chrome.

I would finish it, since it is your carry piece.

If it were a true collectable, you would not carry it.
