Anyone have an idea how long a stock spring will last? 6000 rounds? 12000? 20000?

my 1911 is a ***** with springs, I have about 4500 rounds through it and notice a ton of slop already. Read they should be swapped out at 5000 or 7000.

My ruger's have well over 8000 rounds with no problems, just really loose. But not problems

I would assume this spring is like glock spring, which it is..should never need to be replaced?

yeah that is a good question on mag springs.

I have found new mags, but at 40 bucks a pop i think i will wait and see if they come down in price, or try to catch a deal somewhere.

When did you need to replace the mag springs?

Usually ill keep my mags loaded up to 13 rounds..i always underload by 1 or 2 rounds. Not sure if this has any effect on life of the spring, but i readsomewhere it dont hurt.

If your mag springs work, U should never need to replace them. Some people have had issues with FNP mag springs failing to lock the slide back.

HK mags are somewhat famous for this. ALL of my HK mags had to have WOlf springs put into them.

As for the recoil spring - other semi-autos recommend changes at the 5k mark. If I had an FNP w/ 5k thru it, I'd probably get a new recoil spring.

Ship is right, the only reason mine were replaced was because of the slide not locking back. The gun still functioned perfectly in all other respects. I got them "replaced" at around 12k. By "replaced" I mean, I called Bob at FN (after calling customer service 3 times) and he had me send the mags in. I got two new ones in the mail about a week later...oh, and an FN hat. FN even paid for shipping both directions. I don't like that they just replaced the entire things, seems to me that that would just drive prices of the guns up. However, at the same time, I can't complain.

On the topic of recoil spring replacement, I would like to do it, but I'm about 90% sure that I would run into the same problem as mag springs. And I'm lazy. And I'm going to Germany for 4 years so I won't be able to have it anyway.

from FN? Wollff dont have them, nor do they have plans to keep them. ohwell im not worried, it's a nightstand gun mainly and for the range..no biggie. My Glock 19 is 6 years old with at least 5000 rounds in it, at that time i didnt keep track of round counts like i do now..but it's a good guess..i was buying 500 rounds a week back in 2004 in 9mm and .45...then laid off for a while only shooting once a week..burnt myself out

glock is as tight as a ......

Yes - WOlf doesn't sell these yet.

They don't sell P99 mag sporings either. However, the mags are made by Mecgar, and are shaped exactly like Beretta 92 Mags - except for the hole for the mag release, obviously.

Someone gave me some OLD, OLD, OLD P99 10-round magazines for free a while back. They worked, but didn't lock the slide back anymore. I replaced them with two Beretta mag springs. Works perfect now.

Anyway - maybe FN will start selling springs, or U can find something similar to work.
