I purchased this firearm from a local gun store and brought it home for it's first cleaning. I'm using hoppes 9 lube and it's not taking to the bolt carrier group. Any advice? Is it packing grease? A bad finish? It's tearing my cleaning wipes when I use it on the bolt carrier. Thanks for the advice. If it's normal I've never seen a part as rough as this. It's on a majority of the bolt carrier.

yes, there is some kind of packing grease. you'll want to use some clp or other cleaner, and then lube as needed.

Normal! they all come the same way!
I appreciate it. My cleaning pads tear and leave fibers behind on it and it just bothers me. CLP just wipes off and leaves nothing behind on it. But FN said it's no big deal.

Has anybody mentioned that it could be cause by the installation of a KDG SCAR stock kit? Just wait...

My early manufactured scar 16s has this same issue on its bolt carrier as well. It still works the same, functions the same and is just as reliable as my scar 17s with its smooth bolt carrier group.
