Hi,
I asked this question on another forum and did not get a answer so I will try here.

If you form 1 a scar and have the 16'' barrel cut to around 10'' will there have to be modifications to the size of the gas port to make the rifle function, or will the gas system of the scar be able to handle this modification?

If extra barrels are available in the 10'' lenght then this would not be a issue, but I would think these(10'' barrels) will be hard to get.

Great forum! Good info here. :D

My answer from the other forum, which is as close as you are going to get for now...

I don't think we will have a definite answer until they (the semi auto CIVILIAN model, aka 16S) are in our hands. However, the gun was designed to be a quick change barrel system between 10", 14", and 18", so for that reason alone, I doubt that they would fail to incorporate a functioning platform with different barrel lengths.
However, you can also try posting the same question in the FNH subforum on this site.

Kinda, but 5.56 ammo is all over the place and you can't swap barrels of different lengths in 2 minutes. Imagine one gun, great for close range, then 2 minutes later, great for ranges out to 600 yards. The 90's can't do that.

Nothing will beat a shotgun for room clearing...

...except for maybe an M203, hand grenade, and various other rocket propelled grenades

You have to ask why???

And I know this goes counter to the group hive here, but 5.7mm is not anywhere in the same league as 5.56mm, even out of a 10" barrel.

And, I've made reliable hits off hand out to 200 meters on a reduced C zone steel silhouette with HK G36C's and FN Mk. 16 Mod O SCAR-L's, which I can't do with a P90, and I'd expect the 5.56mm to actually do something at that distance with decent OTM ammo.

To the OP, you'd have to open the gas port if you cut the barrel down, as has been stated, the SCAR is designed to use quick change barrels with different gas port sizes depending on the barrel.

I plan on Form 1'ing mine within 10 minutes of having it in my hands. 16" is a little long for me. I'll probably go to 10.5, but I'm thinking about 14 as I already have a 10.5 LWRC.

Man, this gun can't get here fast enough!!!

SBR's in pretty much anything look very good. Considering that most of us won't be using them for mid to extended engagements, and mainly to punch paper, might as well get something that looks and handles well.
EXACTLY!!!!

With my 10.5 LW I always get the same comments from guys. " It looks sweet, but the ballistics for that gun suck past 100 yds".

It kills me that people say crap like that. First of all, I know what the ballistics are. Secondly, I can admit that all I'll ever shoot is paper or steel targets with my weapons. And, if, thats a very big IF I ever had to shoot someone with one of my weapons, it wouldn't be past 25 feet, and it wouldn't be with one of my NFA weapons, especially a $3000 weapon that I'd lose to an investigating agency while my guilt was determined.

Now, an even bigger IF a total SHTF scenario existed, ( ie. Zombie society take over, post nuclear armageddon wasteland every man for himself war, or what ever I Am Legend idea anyone can think of ), I had to shoot a person that far out, I'd use my Tango 51 in .308, or my SCAR-H that I'll keep regular length :D Just another reason to get a SCAR-H!!!!

I want one of those

How's the accuracy/how does it shoot?
In the interest of full disclosure, Mike Rescigno, the owner and Master Gunsmith of Tactical Operations is a very good friend of mine, and I rep his products on the East Coast for him. However, our relationship started after I got my first Tac-Ops, an Echo 51, and was blown away by the craftsmanship and accuracy. Mike has since built some awesome weapon projects for me, does all my SBR work and smiths all my guns. He will definitely do my SCAR-L CQB barrel work!!

Here is a quick vid showing how effective the Tac-Ops .30 suppressor is on it...The ammo is Fed GMM 168gr. I was shooting 4" clay birds at 575 yards. ( I have the video of that also ).

I don't have any pics of my Tango groups around, as I stopped taking pics of good groups a long time ago when I was shooting my Echo 51 all the time. I do have some .25MOA or less groups hanging on my wall over my shooting bench that I'll get pics of later and PM you if you want. PM me and I'll send you numerous Tac-Ops pics and vids of all my Tac-Ops toys... If there is Tac-Ops interest, I'll post a thread in the " other guns " forum.
