Hello, has anyone seen Handl's new lower for the scar platform? It's a lower that accepts ak mags.. Are barrel conversions around the corner?

There has been info floating around about this kit for a long while. Unfortunately it seems like vaporware up to this point. I would certainly like to see it in the end users hands but I don't know how it could be cost effective seeing as how just the barrels for the scar cost more than a brand new VEPR 7.62X39. I personally would much rather grab a different rifle bag than slap a bunch of high priced mods on my scar in order to shoot cheap surplus ammo. However, like I said before I would like to see it in the wild.

Good points everyone, I want one so I can shoot 7.62x39 out of my scar. It's cheaper, but then again the conversion will cost more than another nice Bulgarian AK. Also the thought of running steel through my scar hurts.. I used to do that a few years back in my 17s but hey we were all young at one point. I would like to have a spare barrel and shoot a ton of steel and use the savings on the cost of spare parts... But that can get.. Confusing to keep track of. I do want to get another scar, spray that badass with $20 in paint, and beat the **** out of it. Drag that sucker through the dirt and shoot steel all day. Then again I could get a cheap AR for that. I must say that if the barrels don't come from FN, I do not want anything to do with this. Handl wasn't a great company to begin with from what I remember.

To each his own, I guess. I'll be the old Curmudgeon, though.(finding I love being the Curmudgeon) :-D

Why would anyone do this? Aside from for $hits and giggles?

edit--^^^from above---to shoot cheap all day, okay I guess I get it>

I saw this, and while I was excited at first, that has waned. I'd be more interested if 1. They had made one in .300 BLK first, or 2. It wasn't Handl making this. Something about that whole company just seems... I don't know, off?

wait long enough and FN will probably release their own, if they ever get around to embracing that caliber modularity they used as a selling point back in the early days.
While I do remember there being talk of a 7.62x39 version, I don't recall it being used as a major selling point. I know there was a lot of speculation that they would do a 6.8 SPC conversion for the 16S (since 6.8 was still a big deal then), but that's about it. The ACR was the one that made a huge deal about "caliber conversions", and yet Bushmaster hasn't even bothered to release different barrels assemblies.

I forgot about this picture, from the 2014 Warrior Expo East, FN IS already working on a 7.62x39 version.

As for Bushmaster, don't forget that's like the third owner of that platform (started as the Magpul Masada, then Remington started calling it the ACR when they took it over, now it's in Bushmaster's hands), they're fairly well removed from it's original ideals.

Ok, i'm new to a lot of this, but couldn't you shoot the both the 7.62x39, the 308, and the 300 blk out of the same barrel? Aren't the projectiles the same?
And as far as a 300 blk version - shouldn't the 16 lower and bolt work and use the 17 barrel?

You could not because the chambers are all different sizes.

Besides the chambers being different, there is a difference between Western 7.62 and Russian 7.62 projectiles. Ours are usually .308" diameter, while the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54 are usually .310"-.311". While you might be able to make it work, it would cause excessive wear to do so.
